Stress, aggro & annoyance....3 words I've commonly associated with Sky!

I get that nothing is perfect in a technology world but when these pucks/boxes/paperweights* (*delete as appropriate) have already been in circulation with the Glass TV for around a year they & their associated remotes should be functioning a lot better than what I & maybe many others have found them to be like thus far.

Still early days though....I'm only on Day 9, I'll give it till day 28 at the absolute latest then make a decision.

Re: Stream remote completely unresponsive

My new Sky Stream puck arrived today, plugged it all in, set it up and pulled the tab out of the remote batteries. The Stream got to the network connection screen, but nothing, remote unresponsive and couldn't select the options. Annoyingly the selection box has a little glint on it that looks like it should be animated and it was static so i thought the box had frozen (apparently none of these little 'glint' things do actually animate) I removed the power and connected an Ethernet cable. I reconnected the power and held the puck's power button down until the little light started colour-cycling and then the box rebooted, connected to the the internet and did a recovery / update. After 15 mins it's all rebooted and im back at the setup screens, but still no response from the remote.

I have an infra-red receiver in the room that flashes a light when any remote is activated even if it's not the remote for this receiver and pushing the buttons on the Sky remote did not cause a flash. The backlights on the remote would not light up. Tried different batteries, no change, tested the Sky batteries in another device, all good.

I banged the remote hard, nothing. I gripped it in both hands and while holding down the 'ok' centre button bent and twisted the remote, it creaked, it groaned and then the TV moved onto the next menu. Hooray! Backlight on, infra-red sending commands i got the Stream set-up and also connected the Bluetooth. Its been 3 hours now and so far had no dropouts or disconnections or error messages. Fingers crossed.

I don't know if my remote had different issues to others, as it definitely seemed to start to work after  being brutal with it, or whether it was just a coincidence, but either the build quality or software on these things is not good.

I've been a Sky customer for only 3 hours and so far I'm not so impressed. Lets see if the box can win me over.

Thanks for sharing your experience and solution to getting it to work not the best first impression but I hope the rest of the system gives you a better impression.

Re: Stream remote completely unresponsive

So thought my remote had totally packed up. However after hour managed to pair it back up the trick is to count exactly how many seconds your holding the buttons for it's very findily but don't think remotes are packing up think there just disconnecting and pauring is fiddly.

Re: Stream remote completely unresponsive

Apologies if this has already been mentioned as I haven't read all 17 pages of this thread but I've just had the same dead remote problem and many attempts at the buttons 7 and 9 followed by 1 and 3 procedure would not make it spring back into life.

I spoke to a very helpful chap at Sky who told me that it was possible that it was the tv that was interfering with Bluetooth setup.  He explained that just because the remote buttons weren't lighting up did not mean that it was dead.  The solution was to temporarily move the puck as far as the cables would allow in front of the tv.  It had previously been just behind.  Then 7 and 9 followed by 1 and 3 worked first time.  Now I've got a working remote.

Re: Stream remote completely unresponsive

Another update on my remote control woes, albeit a small & probably insignificant one!

Had a perfectly good working remote control in my bedroom until about 5 mins ago....when it fell off my bed!

Not the greatest of heights to fall but as a result it's now "dead" or at least unresponsive.

SkyQ remote fell from the bed & sofa many times in the past & still worked afterwards so it would seem that the stream remotes aren't made from the same tough stuff that the Q ones are.

Re: Stream remote completely unresponsive

Great advice from @AntInBristol. Still couldn't get any response from the remote for my 3rd stream puck, twisting the remote and it lit up and could finish the set-up.

3 weeks after gettting my first box, and an issue linking my Netflix account, I now have 3 working stream pucks.

Re: Stream remote completely unresponsive

Just had a go at trying what @AntInBristol suggested in terms of reviving my remote that "died" after falling on the floor....surprisingly or perhaps coincidentally it came back to life after bending it & twisting it.

This was a bit of a lifesaver solution as having been in bed sick all day I was facing a night without TV, more so when I couldn't get a replacement stream remote to pair!

Re: Stream remote completely unresponsive

It's interesting that 3 people found twisting the remote brings it back to life, it implies that there could be a hardware issue with the remote.

Agreed which if it is the case means that it could just a batch that needs recalling but obviously Sky would need to do that.

That certainly wasn't the case with mine. I had made various attempts to revive it during the 36 hours it was dead with no joy. It had been sitting on the coffee table for a couple of hours when I accidentally brushed the volume button and the tv volume change. I picked it up and it has been perfect since.

Re: Stream remote completely unresponsive

My original remote is still dead to the world a whole week later. Nothing I have tried so far has brought it back to life and I've tried every suggestion found in this thread!

Have you tried throwing it out the window to see if that helps? Extreme measures but might sort it out! 😂
