Re: Stream remote completely unresponsive
Day 10, still waiting. Received a text saying its ordered but no one at sky can say when it will arrive. Currently have no TV. If I'd known about this I would never have signed up. I'm truly shocked at how bad their customer service is and will not be recommending to anyone I know.
I know it's a first world problem and all that. But it's criminal they'll sign you up and knowingly send out defective equipment. I've tried all the 'fixes' coils and all. The remote is completely dead.

Re: Stream remote completely unresponsive
If you are still within the 31 day cooling off period why not cancel your contract and send the hardware back free of charge. I did.
If Sky think it is acceptable to keep shipping Stream kits to new customers when they know there is a problem with the remotes, then as far as I am concerned they are not a business I want to stay with.

Re: Sky should come clean
i have now been wait for a fortnight for my replacement remote control, nothing from the courier, even though sky promised me tht it would be sent out for delivery by DPD.
Sky hang your heads in shame, not very good, not very good at all. Cant use or watch Sky stream, bet im getting charged for the privilege. Called Sky twice regarding this and told on both occasions that a replacement remote control will be dispatched, either both have been lost in the post or someone isnt telling the truth!!!

I totally agree with what you're saying it isn't good enough I'm just waiting for a phone call back again from sky. I just need to come clean the recent any in the country and you won't get home till after Christmas now and cancel everybody's subscription for at least six months or waiting

Re: Sky should come clean
How long have you been waiting Steve? I have spoken to Sky support today for my own case and they tell me they have already taken delivery of 10,000 new remotes which are being distributed with a lot more on the way. The problem was what we suspected, they went over to a "Carbon Neutral" approach and stopped soldering as many of the remote joints as they could. The previously completely reliable remotes, they were the standard Glass ones, became our problematic versions as far as the power connections to the PCB were concerned.
I realise how frustrating it may be to have no working remote and I sympathise. Have you tried the down and dirty "twisting the body" or "terminal stretching" solutions on your current one? That can bring it back to life for a period. Are you sure your delivery delay isn't just the pressure of Royal Mail strikes which are affecting other independent couriers too as they overload with RM business, combined with the Christmas backlog?

Re: Stream remote completely unresponsive
I will say that I am in two minds about questions of Sky's honesty. I think there are a number of factors which are affecting this issue.
Firstly, the technical. I have spoken to Sky staff on a technical level, (electronics is my job), and can confirm that the problem is unsoldered connections between the terminal strips and the PCB just as others have suggested. The same remotes were originally designed and supplied for Glass as a soldered version and gave no trouble. The suggestion was then made that it would be good to leave off all unnecessary soldering as part of their move towards "Carbon Neutrality". Those power connections to the PCB are of course a problem which has been identified as and acknowledged for a while. The unsoldered remotes have been scrapped and new ones are being delivered as we write. They say they have already taken delivery of a fair number so they are available and are being fed out on a first come first served basis.
The supply of the new versions is no doubt being impacted by the Royal Mail strikes. I have noticed myself that, while RM deliveries are over a week behind, independent courier deliveries are also being badly affected as they are currently taking on a lot more deliveries with despatchers swapping from RM. That is my own observation not any excuse that was given by Sky staff.
Again this is only my own observation but, staff in the support department are being as helpful, open and honest as they can IF you approach them offering to share a pot of honey and not force them to drink from a vinegar bottle! All they can do is to register complaints, implement plans for replacement, then pass that on to the next department. Yes, they are the customer face of their company and as such part of their job is to soak up bile and vitriol, but they are only human and, as I said, I found them to be very suportive as I made sure to be sympathetic towards them. So, nothing really new there, I just thought it worth pointing out that pushing our bloodpressure up to dangerous heights is neither good for us nor does it shift telephone staff in any way when there is no doubt an element of truth to what they say.
Now a really simple suggestion. I have found that my own remote, while it seems to work fine with the "positive terminal stretch" applied, has run through a set of batteries in a few weeks, just as many others report. I put this down to the remote's use of Bluetooth. Bluetooth as an omnidirectional radiator is very power hungry so they have set it up so the remote switches off in a short time after each use. As an example, see how long your mobile battery lasts with Bluetooth switched on compared to off. The motion sensor in the remote wakes it up and turns on the backlighting for the keys as an indication of its readiness. This probably means Bluetooth waking too and it will need to pair up each time it starts. There are implications to that.
I am prone to sitting with the remote in my lap or even in my hand as I watch programmes. That keeps the remote moving and therefore turned on constantly. That in turn keeps Bluetooth running constantly too. If you have a problem with battery life just try actually putting the remote down on a stable surface where it will not be moved when you are not actively using it and see if the batteries last longer. My bet is that they will and in line with that I'm changing my habits in this way too. Of course, a Bluetooth device will always be power hungry so batteries may never last as long as in an IR type remote but we may get a lot more life out of a set if we don't keep the remote constantly active and radiating.

Re: Stream remote completely unresponsive
I wonder if anyone has tired to open a defective remote to see if the unsoldered tags can be soldered. I notice there is a small screen by the ir led and the rest looks like standard plastic tags. I've checked YouTube and there's no videos yet. Of course I suspect most will wait for a new one so only thinking of those desperate with no working remote. Also can the sky q remote be paired? I know it uses the same codes for many of the buttons as I have used a q remote to learn codes for home automation.

Re: Sky puck remote not working
I've been trying to follow all the instructions above for my unresponsive remote. It started working for about 5 minutes and now has completely stopped again. I've tried 7&9, then 4&6 and both times it lights up but when I do 1&3 there's absolutely no response. I only got my sky stream pucks and remotes today. Extremely disappointed to be honest I think it's a poor service as shouldn't be this difficult.
any other tips?

Re: Sky puck remote not working
Have you tried twisting the body firmly so you can see it distort, or stretching the positive terminal coil spring into the battery cavity slightly? These both work for me and the second seems to have fixed my own remote more or less permanently. I have still registered for a new remote and when it comes I can open this one up to see if it can actually be soldered for a true permanent fix.
