I am also having the same issue. 
also when it does work I find the volume goes up and down all the way through a track.

Same here. Additionally the remote control completely ceases working in the Spotify control bar and the only way out is to press the home button.

This issue with the control not working also happens frequently when the sound is still playing in Spotify so no skip, stop etc. Also happens regardless of whether I'm using it directly on the sky box or using Spotify in my phone to control the sky Spotify.
