Soundbox won’t play SD channels

Soundbox works on HD channels but won’t recognise SD channels and plays sound back through the tv instead ,Help.

Well that's been odd @uncle2rob 

Never heard of that before 

Does it make any difference if you change the Audio output on your Sky box away from Dolby and on to "none" (settings / setup / audio visual / HDMI digital output)

Also would be worth powering off both boxes at the mains plug for a minute. These make any difference ?

Thanks,if I do that won’t I loose the surround sound of the soundbox?

Hi @uncle2rob 

Yes you would lose the benefit of the Dolby mix if it was being broadcast - so by no means ideal - I was just trying to work out if the Dolby / on / off was the issue 

I'm not at home to check but I was thinking that if the SD channels broadcast in stereo only - maybe the audio setting is what's causing the soundbox to cut out on SD

Thanks,I’ve got audio set to hdmi Dolby ,and an optical lead plugged in as per the instructions,also I’m on my fifth soundbox in two years so I’m familiar to an extent but stumped on this ,sky keep replacing the box each time but I never get to talk through settings with anyone ,as the box works great on hd I can’t help thinking it’s something in settings.

When I get home @uncle2rob I'll see how mine is on SD channels (I think the only SD I watch regularly is our local BBC news)

I take it your optical cable goes from your TV to your soundbox and you use it for TV built in apps and things like DVD player / Apple TV etc ?

Thanks,yes hd Netflix etc all ok and I try and stick to hd channels but my wife doesn’t like the fafing about and will not look to see if what she wants to watch is in hd

I've tried about a dozen SD channels with my setting both on Normal and on Dolby- the soundbox works fine on both. So this tells us it's something at your end rather than design 

Might be worth trying - if you have them - 2 different HDMI cables. 

I've been thinking about settings and I can't quite think what settings on either your TV or Sky box could be causing this 

In your Sky soundbox settings menu (the one when you press ?) - have you tried turning all those off ( to none)

Any unusual audio settings on your TV ? 

Just so I'm clear then, if you are 103 your soundbox works ok, if you go to 203 it stops working ?

Thanks for your reply,on sd channels sound comes through the tv until I press hdmi on the s-box remote,I shouldn’t have to do that as it’s on hdmi anyway as hd channels play ok. I have sound settings on speech as I wear hearing aids ,the strange thing is ocationaly if I’m watching on hd and change to sd it will sometimes play through the s-box but never on switch on .

I would always expect  sound to come out of the soundbox with the Soundbox on HDMI setting (providing volume was turned up on the soundbox and down on the TV)

Do you have an HDMI cable from your Sky Q box in to your soundbox. Then a second  HDMI cable out of the Soundbox in to your TV ?

Yes I do ,plus an optical from tv into s-box

Sorry to have wasted your time but I have discovered the old tv remote may have been played with by our grandchildren so the volume was turned up.It seems to have fixed it although I’m surprised the soundbox doesn’t have control over the tv sound on sd ,
