Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

Hi

I tried changing the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 yesterday on all boxes and it seemed to temporarily work. But today despite them all still being 8.8.8.8 it doesnt work. Managed to download episode 1 and 2 of the new Sky show The Landscapers but episode 3 and 4 failed as item unavailable.

So the temporary workaround still doesnt work.

But now the download failed error is "remote network problem" instead of "item unavailable" ever since changing the DNS server settings.

I then changed settings 1:1:1:1 and could download episode 3. But episode 4 failed as item unavailable. Changed back to 8:8:8:8 and still failed but as remote network problem.

So as it stands we cant watch anything other than something we record or watch live. Goes against the point in having Sky Q.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

I've been having the same issue downloading Sky Q programmes and also have BT broadband.

I changed the DNS settings on the Sky Q box advanced network settings to use Google DNS 8.8.8.8 ip address.

This immediately solved the problem and I've been able to download the landscapers TV show.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

I contacted Watchdog yesterday, despite some individual laughing at my action.  Better some action than none though.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

I complained directly to Sky this morning and requested compensation. Let's see what happens.....

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

Changing the DNS is very hit and miss, I tried 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1....had no impact at all. Seems to work for some people, albeit temporarily......

Like some others on this discussion, I will be contacting Sky again later and pushing for compensation....

Thank you to everyone who replied to my last post.

We’re still investigating the issue right now. I’m back again with a couple more questions for you all with BT broadband, could you please tell me the following if you can:

  • The make and model of your router
  • The software version of your router

Thanks,

Chloe-W22

Saynotogn?

I can't locate this. Do you mean the say no to 0870 site, or something else? Alternative numbers that manage to negate/avoid the shoved-down-the-non-applicable-options-menu are always v useful to have! I trawled the net last week looking for a different, working, number to no avail, so I would genuinely like to get hold of this  😊

Also, we had the engineers out yesterday, upgrading to Sky Q, and they said it was a recognised BT broadband issue due to an update, and that BT were working on fixing it "soon" ("Soon when? A couple of days? A couple of weeks? A couple of months?" "Oh, days.")

I'm not holding my breath.

They did the 8888 thing (they said they'd all had a letter about this from Sky, and that they'd been given a couple of workarounds to try, this being one), and now I'm getting even more issues with various programmes (e.g. on Peacock, Sky Atlantic) refusing to download at all - "Press [the red button] to upgrade your subscription," which is obviously not right as sub is correct, and these were channels and progs I was watching on our old HD+ box prior to the switch. I went back a bit later, and the upgrade message was replaced by a stalled or failed download, as before (I had one ep that downloaded 29% before failing - so hopeful and so frustrating!).

Curiously, after it finally managed to download one episode of a particular series, it's been auto-downloading and playing successive eps without these problems.

I've also noticed that (at least on our old HD+ box) if I download at off-peak times like midnight, the downloads were happening as usual, with the "Available to view" message popping up within a few secs. This would fit with it being a broadband problem. Maybe BT have oversubscribed for their available bandwidth in certain areas? - To clarify, we don't have a houseful of adolescents downloading stuff constantly, we aren't online on our own devices when I'm trying to download with Sky during the day, yet downloads are definitely working more normally  at midnight or so, when our personal internet useage is about the same as it is during the day. It must therefore be connected to our neighbourhood's internet use.

Personally, I think that BT has done some sort of service update and this is clashing with Sky's architecture, in the same way that the iOS 13 upgrade a while ago clashed with practically every website out there until Apple sorted it out.

I don't care whose issue it is, I just want the services we pay for to provide what they say they'll do, without all this faffing around.

For what it's worth, it seems to me that no corporation ever takes ownership of their products' problems but blames it on someone/something  else, so Sky will say it's BT, BT will say it's Sky, sigh.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

Guess what I didn't get a call back as promised by Adam from Gloucester regarding a reduction in my fee for what is now a black plastic box that has a light on the front.  It is not fit for purpose.  I have changed the DNS settings trying both 1111 and 8888 and it makes no difference when I try to download it says queued and the start download is inert.

Why is Sky trying to make this a BT problem?  From reading here we are with different internet providers and having the same issue.  My contract is up next April and I think after 21 years I will not bother with Sky anymore.

Re: SkyQ Download Failed Item Unavailable

@Chloe-W22  - mine is BT Smart hub 2, software version v0.30.01.08093 - BT which is the latest version updated in November. This is not an issue with BT,  this is an internal Sky issue. I have a neighbour who has exactly the same issues, who has both BT and Sky internet and both have identical issues.
