Have tried both 8888 and 1111 ensuring main plus mini box match and hasn't helped sadly
not sure if it's even worth calling sky given all the comments

@susie102p Did you power down and restart after change?

Yes everytime

I appear to have resolved the problem (at least for me). I am posting here in case it helps anyone else.
I use BT Broadband and Sky Q and had the same issues with failed downloads of anything from Sky Channels. I did try to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 ideas but they did not work for me. I know some people said you had to change the addresses in the router too, but I did not want to do that.
What did work is I used an old programmer's trick - just deleted and reloaded 🙂
So without messing with any ISP or DNS addresses, I went to settings - Network settings and there is an option to reset (the Sky dialogue says to use another router / provider). One small hiccup I had was this would not work until I made sure ALL my Sky Q devices were powered on. I have a minibox and had that unplugged, and reset did not work until I powered it up again.
I then selected my BT broadband from the list of available wifi options (just like you get on any other device when trying to connect to wifi). of course it meant I had to re-enter my wifi password which is a real pain with the Sky interface, but once I did this I was then able to download from Sky Channels. So far it has been working all day (about 8 hours and counting). Maybe it will degrade again, but all I can say is it works now.
I hope this helps others - it is so immensely frustrating. Just shows how much we have come to rely on immediate access to watch things.

It would be mad if that's the true fix and Sky haven't been giving that advice!! Will try it later for sure although I'm connected by Ethernet so not sure if I 'select' a network. Might try it over wifi

What a clusterfudge this is from sky!
I'm with bt and 8.8.8.8 has solved the issue, for now at least.
I don't know what a DNS is and I certainly shouldn't have to care!

I have tried both also and they have failed. So frustrating! Sky don't care!

I only did the reset on the main box. I just had to make sure the second box was turned on.
Still seems to be working for me, although I appreciate it may be different for others.

Hi all
Without going through the whole thread, I had this problem a while back but have now just come across this again.
I'm not with BT or Sky but with Community Broadband with a stable 300mb download speed and changed my router settings to 1.1.1.1 a couple of weeks ago after seeing this reported on AVForums. It's made no difference, maybe i should start reading the thread and see if there's any other temp fix unless anyone has any other suggestions?
Thanks

@ispartacus
OK thanks - I am presently using the 1.1.1.1 DNS change which seems to work most of the time for me but if it deteriorates will try the reset

OK we have had this problem for the last couple of weeks could not download episodes of the Lost Symbol or anything from Sky Cinema. We tried to download a film tonight on our main SkyQ box and got the download failed message.
Really just out of desperation I went to our mini box tried to load the same film and it downloaded on both boxes without any issues.
it's weird that the mini box does what the main box can't, definitely not a BT broadband issue.

The mini boxes have no hard disk. Everything is downloaded to the main box and streamed to the minis

We had the download error, sky man come out and updates the DNS to 1111. Worked fine for the past week and tonight, back to download failed with the DNS still on 1111.
what is going on? Why has Sky not fixed this yet?

This is becoming an absolute joke now! I have been unable to download for a few weeks. I've reset my BT Hub, rebooted my sky box 3 times and STILL cannot download anything? I have tried to contact Sky but refuse to wait 20+ minutes for them to tell me to do the same thing! What is going on?
