@tarbat Agreed, they seem to have done quite a good job of crippling it in several areas. I am a bit surprised how many people cancelling are choosing to keep it...

Re: SkyGlass Awful

Having now seen Glass in operation in three different households (2 friends and a neighbour) I can wholeheartedly agree with the title of this thread.
All three households are returning it. One is reverting back to Q, the other two were Sky first timers.
Too many things wrong with it to list again, but nothing different to what everyone else is pinpointing as its flaws.
The poor build quality was the biggest shock to me. One of the 55" models I played with had a completely misaligned chassis. The other a wonky speaker grille, which wasn't flush to the surround (just the standard black one) as well as a noticeable buzz & rattle from one of the speakers when in use at a moderate volume.
The 43" was more solidly built but had shocking banding & DSE, coupled with the flickering at the top of the panel.
They really do feel like they've got a whole bunch of cheap components inside their chunky (sometimes mis-aligned) exteriors.
The pucks were a big disappointment too. Compared to an Apple TV box they feel sluggish, buggy and inconsistent. All of them needed a reboot (sometimes twice) during my testing at the three different locations. They too feel like they're under-powered for what is required of them.
Really, really poor. Absolutely confirms that I will not be buying into the Glass 'experience' at any point soon. Sky have an awful lot of work to do on this.
My mate's son summed it up perfectly, after seeing the Glass TV ad with the kid dressed as a wizard, he said "made of magic? B0ll0cks. Send it back & use the Firestick"

I am as well. Even if there weren't crippled so badly without a Sky sub the quality of the set just doesn't make sense keeping. If the picture had great colour accuracy, great viewing angles and a great HDR experience for the price I could maybe understand it but with how bad it is and the issues with it as a dumb TV (especially if going back to Q) I just don't get it.

The sound isn't too bad, but the picture is nowhere near where it needs to be at this price point. I'm not even sure that even if the Sky Stream platform had worked better than the TV is good enough to justify keeping it and without having a sub it certainly isn't. At this quality level it needs to be at least a couple hundred cheaper (or maybe even more, I'm not sure what sub-300 tv's are providing image quality wise these days but that is probably the range we are talking about, not the £400-600 you would be expecting with all things considered). Even then if it was cheaper it's really a bedroom tv where those who are watching are doing so from a single position so its easier to get it directly in line unlike a living room where you are most likely having people watching from multiple angles

Re: SkyGlass Awful

The only thing I can say is whack up the backlight a bit and you should be more impressed, but yes viewing angles are worse than the non OLED LG that I just relegated to a games room.

Re: SkyGlass Awful

After just a few hours with sky glass. Sky Q definitely has the upper hand. The hard drive record features are definitely a better feature than having to sit through the adverts. I'll definitely reverting to Q

Re: SkyGlass Awful

ok for all those wanting to know what its like as a Dumb TV if you keep it without a subscription to sky just disconect from wifi to give it a try,

I just tried this by going to settings network advanced and switching off wifi

you then get a screen with a wifi icon to reconect an arial icon snd 3 hdmi options

I selected an hdmi that has my ps4 on it and it turned on the ps4  when I pressed home to get back to the option screen and chose arial input it swiched off the ps4 and gave me the iprion to tune in freeview, once tuned it is complete with a epg for freview by tapping the left arrow along with a few other options so without a sky subscription it can be used just like a TV! iv you wanted a smart TV just plug in a fire stick qbox apple TV or the like.

@silver+stream Thanks for confirming. I guess the question for people cancelling and considering keeping the TV is, if you are buying a new TV with the budget of Glass, would you still pick the Sky Glass TV with its various restrictions and more limited app selection over another less restricted make with a soundbar maybe? For me it only really makes sense if you are not giving up on the full Glass service completely and hoping to resubscribe at later date, after hopefully a lot of improvements from Sky. And that carries the assumption Sky allow people to do that...

I keep seeing conflicting info about skipping adverts. I was lead to believe from Sky on twitter that you'd be able to fast forward through adverts on ITV player and 4OD. Is this not the case?

Actually, that doesn't show you what it's like to use the TV without a subscription because it's still activated. I was still using mine while I was waiting for it to be picked up, the night before I reset it as requested but when they didn't turn up to pick it up but they did activate my Sky Q back. While it was still activated but without a subscription, I still had full access to all the settings, when I was trying to use it with Sky Q for a day (thankfully it was only a day before my new TV arrived because it DOES NOT work correctly with Sky Q unless you consider the Sky Q box remote turning the TV off when you click the Sky Q power button but doesn't turn it on, or some of the keys on the Sky Q remote triggering functions on the Glass including sending you back to the home screen) and a bunch of the setting were then greyed out as the TV wasn't activated. I'm pretty sure it stores the activation status for a period of time which makes sense for temporary blips in the internet connection and that will only expire after a set period of time when it deems it needs to phone home to verify. This is why I could still access everything but the premium channels for about 2 days while it was still activated despite my package being cancelled because it was still going on the 'lease' it had last got but when you reset it and tried to verify the sub again it obviously couldn't as that leases that was working had been wiped

This is why I've said previously it basically unusable on its own, yes you can feed HDMI signals into it but how many people subbing to Sky are just going to bin Sky off? They will want to go back to Q which doesn't then work properly with the TV and so you have a TV with compatibility issues with Q and which you are limited on what setting you can change to try and get the picture to be anywhere near satisfactory. And even with a sub and full ability to tweak (well what they consider full ability, even with a sub its massively lacking), it's not like it's great. The value is in the software because you can get a better TV and soundbar for around the same price

Yes, you can.

At 6x speed on ITV (and they seem to put in a LOT of adverts, it seems to be far more than is normally allowed for traditional broadcasts...so it can take up to maybe 30seconds or longer to FFWD through them).

On 4 you seem to just tap (or perhaps hold) 'right' and it skips the whole lot of adverts and immediately gets back to whatever you were watching.

Shows on 5 have no adverts at all, they act like the Sky channels where you just get a logo where the breaks normally are, and then come straight back.
