If rented they should come with a coin meter attached to stop people selling them on Auction sites 🤣🤣🤣

Of course we are all only guessing but the main guess is that it will be a TV.

BUT it may not be it could just be a display device that only works with Sky by WiFi. No tuners, no aerial input (dish or terrestrial) and only useable on Sky Q. A bit like the existing Q boxes. 😈

Whether it's a TV, a box, a 'puck', an app or any combination of them all, I think the only thing we can be certain of is that Sky will make a hash of some part of it.

There's bound to be some caveat like no UHD streaming unless you buy the TV or multiscreen pucks only available with the TV etc...

I really want to be wrong but I'm not getting my hopes up. Let's see what Thursday brings.

Probably won't be too your liking @fizzdisco you have more issues with Sky than Vogue but you still continue to pay Sky each month so they must be doing something to actually keep you believe in better or not in your case 🤣🤣🤣

@fizzdisco  And when you look at the issues reported across the community here there is plenty of evidence of issues with hardware/software across the existing range of Sky hardware (routers, sky boxes, minis etc). So, as you say adding more equipment to their portfolio has the potential to add more fuel to that fire. After all they took 3 years to fix one sound drop out issue. Oh, wait or was that because they were working on developing these new shiny toys 😉 Also, given Sky's use of encryption in keeping it's content secure it is safe to say they are  used to dealing with hashes 😉

Now that's something I find VERY easy to believe at the moment. I wish I could say I didn't!

@tarbat I would expect that to be the live stream of the press event given the timing.

Sky seem to have a bad case of Apple envy.

Did they go live for the Sky Q unveiling? I cant remember.

Either way, it needs to be pretty special to plug it as magical. Folk on here and Digital Spy are assuming it will be a cheap TV that will be discontinued prettly quickly.

I am intrigued as in market for a new 65" TV.

Not long to wait.

@Ben1980 I just remember the Sky Q advert with the song 'it's gotta be me' by Sammy Davis Jnr.

Hopefully it's Fluid Viewing at it's best🤣🤣🤣

That comes from the press speculation in the US about Comcast using Hisense television hardware.

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box

For me the key question I'll be looking for is whether these new UK TVs, boxes, etc. will still be running the current Sky Q operating system, or whether they'll switch to Comcast's X1 operating system.

Surely maintaining two operating systems, Sky Q and X1, makes very little sense.  And X1 is RDK based, which seems to be the future.

Comcast have stated for a while now that they were working towards a common tech stack based on X1 and Q... and given that the press release for XIOne did indicate that it was the result of the collaboration between Sky and Comcast does suggest the XIOne (for Xfinity and Sky markets) and the tv products are based on that new tech stack and likely drive their future products... can't say for sure but seems like the most logical outcome.

And given that NowTV was the basis for Peacock which in turn is expected to drive SkyShowtime, suggests they've pretty much done the same for OTT as well...

What I find more interesting is that Sky seem to be negotiating with Virgin to use their fibre network, if that happens it would make me more likely to move from BT to Sky unless BT can also supply FTTP rather than FTTC as they currently do at our address.

Virgin have just started to cable our road.
