Depends on the type of LCD panel they use. If it's VA then it will have a narrower viewing angle and look slightly washed out from the sides. If it's IPS then the viewing angles are greater but contrast is poorer.

And if Sky is cancelled, the TV still works, but with a much reduced feature set.

Freeview through that DTT DVB-T/T2 socket, I guess (plus FTA streaming, perhaps?)

Still pretty much a lobotimised 'smart' TV at that point though.

Presuambly you'd still be able to access apps like YouTube, Netflix and Disney+ with direct subscribtions.  Also 3 HDMI ports means you could also hook up set top boxes from elsewhere should you wish to cancel Sky TV subscription (Playstion/Xbox/Apple TV/Virgin Media etc)

@Khushba

I think the real question is about the UI, as it's still a 'Sky' television set running a Sky OS.

@KhushbaIt says in the T&Cs

Any third party subscriptions that you do not pay for through Sky but view on your current Sky platform will not be viewable on Sky Glass.

If  this is correct which I doubt you would not be able to get "Prime"

Unless you plan to stick with Sky forever, this can't be a good idea to link your TV inextricably with Sky?

Great while subscribed but you'd seriously wish you'd purchased your own third-party TV if you decided to cancel.

Not sure there will be too much to regret.  It has 3 HDMI ports and has DVB aerial input. Sure you might not be able to use or download new streaming apps, but easily solved with a Fire TV, Apple TV or Google TV box.  Also there's nothing stopping you from switching to Virgin Media via a HDMI input.

I'd suggest the model likely to be similar to when a Sky+ (or now a Sky Q) box is used for Freesat: the full Sky UI is always there, reminding you what you are missing...

I guess the question is, if you cancelled, would the normal free view channels still stream content and only the premium, packaged based channels would stop streaming, or would the whole UI just not be available?

With the boxes, you still get the UI and free view channels when you cancel I believe so the assumption is it would be the same but it's worth knowing for sure.

I plan to be with sky forever lol. Or more seriously, if I got sky glass, I would plan to have sky for as long as the contract agreed was. The price would be locked in and I'm pretty sure the locked in time will match the length of time you are committed to paying monthly for the tv.

im really not sure where all the concern is from that perspective.

I get the concern around the image/sound quality and that rotor be the deal breaker for me.

I would assume that any Sky related services - the main user interface, tv guide, channels they provide  streams for (be they free to air or subscription) would stop. You'd hopefully be able to use any third party apps though - iPlayer, ITVHub, etc and the Freeview service.

Sky/comcast reinvent the wheel....already looks punctured🤪.

I would assume them launching a sky app for other branded tv are out of the question then as I'm sure there tv sales would by quite low if we all kept our tvs used the app and sent back the boxes

That depends if other TVs could handle the Sky Q app.

Gut feeling about this, it will be as successful as 3D TV...

The TVs themselves seem to be lower spec than what you can get from the likes of Samsung, LG, etc for the same price.

Would have thought just having the puck to plug into your existing tv would have been better, and probably will be where we go in a couple of years when this experiment has failed.

Just my opinion.

I disagree on that. To get nanocell TVs, you will have to pay more. Plus, for exaple, Samsung seems to have issues with eARC.

Don;t know much about Comcast but Sky haven't produced too many white elephants and I fully expect Glass to be fit for purpose and attractive to many. It's also a good response to those who need 4K everywhere - although I would say they did blunder by not building that in to SkyQ.

I'm impressed with a couple of the innovations, especially the webcam add-on - although shocked if Glass still doesn't include a Reminder function. Building in two-way video and voice is a great idea, especially if you don't have to sit next to the TV to get it to work. Why not incorporate two-way voice into the remote control?

The system has been thoroughly tested on some johnny foreigners and also beta tested here in the UK, so the chances of it being unfit for purpose are somewhere between slim and none. A company of this size is often risk-averse so I'm assuming Sky/Comcast are very confident that Glass will be a winner.

When this board fills up with early adopters who tell me how well it is working - and if Sky reintroduce the Reminder button - I will happily transfer from Q to G. But for the foreseeable future, Q will be the only option for the majority of Sky subscribers so definitely no need to panic buy - especially as Q is at last working properly for me.
