They don't say what speed the internet ports support. I hope they have taken the opportunity to upgrade them to gigabit ports.
What would be the benefit of gigabit when the most they'd need is 25-30Mbit/s to stream UHD HDR content?
If that's true, why hasn't it been possible to stream UHD HDR to a Mini over the current Q system?
Because the ethernet speed isn't the issue with streaming UHD HDR to minis?
That requires the minis support UHD (which they don't - the output chipset only supports 1080) .
There's also not been official confirmation from Sky as to whether the Q box could stream UHD satellite content (whether live or recorded) to another device.
Pucks will get the video stream directly from source (be that Sky or Netflix) and not via the Glass. They'll just communicate with that to ensure the puck and Glass are on the same network.
Even so it would have been a simple upgrade (possibly even via firmware) to make the Minis UHD capable. But it would have been incredibly short-sighted of Sky not to build that capability in from the start, even if it was hidden.
And if they are going to expand the functionality of the pucks to make them also act as hotspots for Sky broadband customers, then 10/100 is slow and old.
Meanwhile, anyone with three different TVs all independently streaming different UHD content at the same time is going to need a lot more than 30Mbps coming into the house.
It really wouldn't have been that simple an upgrade - the V1 UHD boxes can't even be upgraded to HDR support (because the chipset used couldn't be upgraded thanks to a late change to HLG specs).
Using UHD compatible chipsets in all the minis would have increased the price too - look at how much extra Amazon charge for 4k Fire sticks, for example.
But we don't know for sure that the mini is the only limitation -the minis get their Sky content from the main box, so that would need to be able to stream UHD. There's strong suggestions that the chipset in that can't do it.
What I don't get is why not make the V3 boxesand V3 mini boxes able to stream UHD/HDR?

That's where I thought they would have introduced a streaming box, similar the the puck for a wider audience

That can only be because they've been planning Glass for a long time and wanted to promote switching by keeping that function exclusive to Glass. And maybe because they feared a Tsunami of 'broken' V1/V2 boxes if they gave 4K-everywhere Minis to johnny-come-latelys.

Any third party subscriptions that you do not pay for through Sky but view on your current Sky platform will not be viewable on Sky Glass.
If this is correct which I doubt you would not be able to get "Prime"
Sadly this is correct, it's on the Sky Glass website page and this kind of lunacy will end my interest in the product.
Prime Video is included with my general Amazon Prime subscription, I pay Disney+ annually to get a better deal, I'm not paying more or twice just to be able to use apps on Sky Glass.

If they want this to work, they will need all the Apps, especially Apple, if SkyGlass is the go to option for TV.

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
With Sky Q, if anything fails or stops working, it's down to sky to put right.
Im expecting an additional cost for some kind of service agreement or insurance option for Glass & the pucks.
Mini connection issues with Q, this is the responsibility of Sky !
the bandwidth & signal needed for uhd ! from a puck !
this will be now in the hands of the end user to insure that there is a capable internet connection available!
This is more akin to how mobile phones are sold & managed, transferring a fully fledged business model across to a tv & entertainment is an interesting development,
Will the general public adopt this new way of doing things? only time will tell!

I'm all for innovation but I see SkyQ being here for some time to come.

One other thing in the terms (apologies if I missed it being mentioned earlier), with SkyQ you get HD and then UHD Netflix when you add the HD or UHD pack in general.
It isn't clear this is the case with Sky Glass as the new terms suggest the only way to get Netflix in HD or UHD may be to upgrade the Netflix subscription itself.

@TomThumb5ive it is a very interesting question whether this will suceed its cetainly a brave move trying to make a radical change to the TV market. Sky have effectively removed the up front payment for a new shiny TV I can see plenty of takers. They are also assuring loyalty by tieing the TV to their service in much the same way the mobile operators do.
I suspect Dixons Group will not be best pleased as this is pitched right in the area they sell a lot of TVs - the upper market sellers less so Quite a disruptive move.

DIY, and they'll take away the packaging material. If you want it wall-mounted, you'll need to arrange that yourself.

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
I believe that this signals the end of satellite broadcast from sky it's all about the cost as broadband speeds increase sky will push the tv route and probably provide a virgin tv box in the coming years as the picture quality will not match high end tv's unless they improve the tv quality. I am moving back to the uk shortly and will want sky for the football f1 and cricket so it's a 55 inch with the puck on my 65inch in the main living room as I have just ordered a lovely Panasonic tv.
