Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
I watched a bit of it so didn't hear all the details as i was hoping for the announcement of the xfinity. Not interested what happens when you cancel your subscription post it back ? Or do you buy the tv. I trust my own judgement when looking for a tv and don't like being tied down or forced to "choose" a tv to get sky glass. Roll out xfinity and let us decide what tv is best for us
Sky Stream , Sky Superfast, SR203 router, Tp link td w9970 + Asus RT AX58U (backup), Xbox Series X, google home mini, LG 55 inch uhd tv, with Dolbyvision, samsung a5 2017 and samsung s21
If I get it right mark as answered
If I get it wrong humour me
If I say something you like give a thumbs up

I wonder if all the features on GLASS will find there way onto Sky Q? Playlists, etc.

The Scottish dude on the live stream just said "we're not messing around with frame rates and all that stuff that you turn off". Oh dear.
He's like a used car salesman.
Very scant mention of Dolby Vision... probably because no Sky content will be encoded as such. It'll be limited to Netflix & Disney+ I bet.

They could still offer it as a free app downoad for Prime subscribers. The Prime subscription was never integrated with Q like Netflix.
32B12C 2TB UHD Q box • Mini boxes x2 (32D0B2) • 2022 LG C2 OLED TV • Software vQ230.000.14.00L • Gigaclear gigabit FTTH broadband (935Mbps up/down) • Linksys Velop tri-band router; 3 mesh nodes • All Q boxes fully Cat6 hardwired • Q wi-fi disabled • Q picture/audio processing disabled (no sound bar) • Pixellation cured by Q170 but back again with Q190 and now every few minutes with Q210 and Q220 live broadcasts and recordings on all boxes

It's a very good sales pitch. Millions will lap it up. Really intrigued to see some real world testing though. There's little mention of broadband speeds required to keep this all running smoothly, and little mention of UHD or HDR.

The FAQ in the Superuser forum suggests a min. 10 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for UHD.

Yeah I got all that, but I think a lot of people will order it thinking it'll work like satellite delivered Sky Q, but will end up in a buffering hell-hole when their mid-range broadband, particularly over WiFi, starts to struggle. Or maybe it's an excuse for Sky to compress the hell out of all their content even more so that it saves bandwidth... Need to see some proper reviews and real-world testing.
I'll shut up now. It'll work for many people, but it's not a product I'm interested in having.

Nothing regarding the box yet? Although even if it is mentioned at some point today, it's becoming pretty obvious that the push is all in their TV's, not the box, which will alienate many customers, this cannot be denied any longer, they will and already are putting customers backs up with this idea.

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box
Lots of details still not given. For example, looking at the "legal but" at the bottom of the sky glass page it mentions a Netflix standard add on, and a Netflix premium add on. And there is mention of a UHD/Atmos add on. No mention of a HD add on. So my reading is that the basic Sky+Netflix subscription will include HD on Sky, SD only on Netflix. To get HD Netflix you'll pay more, to get UHD Netflix you'll pay separately for that, not as part of the UHD/Atmos.
It also mentions that any 3rd party subscriptions you pay for outside Sky will not be viewable on sky glass. So prime/Disney+? Not available on glass. No cloud recording, as far as I can see, just adding on demand content to a playlist.
£5 a month to fast forward adverts? On on demand content you already paying for. No words to describe that!!
