Dana made a big mistake at the start when introducing the glass TV saying it was 'in glorious HD'...lol she really knows her stuff.

My thoughts purely on the TV.....it's a bit fat...

Pucks yes, but not the main tv as Sky is built in so it's not be receiveing the signal via HDMI

One thing Sky never mentioned is how many of these TVs can you have? Yes they mentioned a small box but they said nothing much about it. But given that it's streaming, there should be no restriction with UHD on all TVs.

I'm waiting for a Sky Glass box that will do all of this stuff. Just two more wires and no dish.

It's covered in the legal info at the bottom - 3 TVs and 6 pucks is the max per household.

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box

I thought the presentation was very well staged and slick...and the product will appeal to many - not least for the webcam add-on which enables video calls/game interaction/TV sharing with F&F, even if they don't have Sky Glass.

The new Sky Glass retail outlets and demo booths will give a big boost to our battered High Streets too.

The price looks good initially but the hurt is in the add-ons/options. If I have to pay £60pa extra to FF the ads, I will never, ever be a Glass customer on principle. Period.

No mention of hardwiring Glass or the pucks into your network but I assume this will be an option. I wouldn't want to stream over wi-fi to multiple TVs, even though my wi-fi is strong.  Nor would I contemplate buying Sky Glass without a minimum and stable 40Mbps - and more like 100Mbps in the real world where dozens of other devices are making constant demans on the network. That would rule out a lot of folk, including many who can get FTTC.

They missed the golden key to make me reach for my chequebook by never mentioning the reintroduction of a Reminder function.

Surely the TV industry will have to respond with something similar (Freeview doesn't cut it) but even then, Sky would probably win on content, execution and delivery.

However, I would put a large bet on Sky Glass - or most of its capabilities - becoming available via a set-top box to any main TV in a few months' time.

TV and pucks both have ethernet ports.  There's quite a bit of technical info here - https://www.sky.com/glass/technical-specifications/55inch?contract=48months&irct=glassHome-glass-tec...

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box

I think the one thing that really stuck out here was the Foxtel licensing announcement... they're clearly not satisfied in just catering to their markets... Sky (and by extension Comcast) have their eye on something much bigger here..

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box

Will absolutley become availble as a box only product.  The TV will either fail quickly and be phased out or become a side add on.  The pucks basically run the same firmware I beleive just minus the screen.

I like what I've seen so far, but I'm interested to see how it works for multi-room subscribers

Re: Sky to launch Sky Q without dish by Xmas based on Xfinity X1 box

Can we get one of these Sky Glass TVs and keep the Sky Q box as well? If so, I might consider the 43" Sky Glass TV for the bedroom.

Those are awful, muddy colours. Looks like they were trying to replicate the hugely successful iMac launch in 1998 and now reproduced in the latest iMac range in colours which actually appeal.
