Tnose who dismiss as 'nonsense' the presence of racial injustice in sport (which is what Sky's support aims to highlight) are precisely why that support is necessary. Such people are part of the problem.

I doubt Sky will be devastated to lose you as a customer.

@Hogshawrabbit Racism is not nonsense, its a problem that has no place in a civilised society, if you do have a problem with it then you are part of the problem.

If your where hoping for an echo chamber here supporting your view you are in the wrong place, Sky won't care one bit a person with your views has cancelled.

It's all about opinions...you have yours and I have mine - I like plenty of others have decided to vote with my feet.

You mention racial injustice in sport...which sports exactly? If you look at 'street level sports' like football there's plenty of ethnic representation. If you look a little deeper into sports where there's no or little ethnic representation you'll also find there's no or little representation from the working classes either. It's not racial it's class discrimination.

Something seems to have changed. Over the weekend I am told the games were not bomabarded with BLM propaganda and I can't see any reference to them this morning on SSN . Too many people have voted with their feet me thinks.

You're right, something has definitely changed.  A couple of weeks ago Sky Sports Golf replaced the BLM logo they've had at the bottom of their leaderboard graphics  since last year and replaced it with their fight against racism and discrimination logo.  I think everyone can agree with a fight against racism message and I'm totally behind it.  What I'm NOT in support of is the BLM and what they stand for and I would go on to say that for the average person living in this country, the BLM have done more harm than good.

Are you talking about the BLM movement who are campaigning for an end to racial discrimination (which is who Sky and many prominent sports people are supporting) or one of the many political groups like BLMUK or BLM Global Network who have wider and more controversial aims?

I don't see any endorsement of those groups by any media or sporting organisations.

Good luck with finding a media outlet still broadcasting from the 1970s...

Your entitled to your view my friend however I do not want a political agenda pushed down my throat when I am supposed to be enjoying some quality time away from the real world madness. This is entertainiment not a political rally. As such I have cancelled my subscription and as you say Sky will probabally not miss my subscription but we all have a choice and mine is to not be lectured during my relaxation by privilaged sports people and my entertainment provider.

Re: Sky sports supprt for BLM I understand Black lives matter but BLM is a political Party and I obj

Well there are some interesting views, opinions, misconceptions and comments out there. I think the thread started with a Sky subscribers opinion that BLM should not be promoted/advertised on a broadcasting service which is paid for by the subscribers. The original conception of BLM was brought about by terrible events in USA and rightly highlighted the racial problems there and mistreatment by the police. Since then however, the cause has been highjacked by people with extreme political beliefs, which as someone states includes de-funding of the police, some other BLM supporters believe in erasing parts of history that they dont agree with and vandalising monuments and memorials to people who have given their lives in defence of the country. These are some of the reasons why people dont support BLM and believe the media should not also. To simply dismiss anyone that objects to this movement as being 'part of the problem' is not acceptable or correct and these people do not realise the damage that has been caused by the misguided support for them.

I believe the majority of people agree there is no place for racism or any form of discrimination in sport or society, but this should be handled sensitively and in the correct manner. This is not by continuing to use BLM movement as a generalisation. PS I think it is a bit disrespectful to say to a Sky subscriber that they will not be missed as we are obviously all valued customers 😁

@Ivegotamonkey

The thread started with the claim that 'BLM' was a 'political party' and so should not be 'promoted' by a broadcaster: this was not factually correct at the time.  With the subsequent attempt to register a political organisation of that name in the UK, the situation regarding broadcasting regulation would potentially now be different.

The electoral commission did refuse the application as

"The application to register Black Lives Matter as a political party was refused by the Commission on the basis that the proposed name is likely to mislead a voter as to the effect of their vote.

'As part of our considerations we examined the existing groups by the same or similar names in the UK. Having contacted a number of groups, they confirmed that the party was not associated with them.

'Our assessment concluded that, whilst the BLM movement is a grassroots movement, it was still likely that the proposed name would mislead a voter as to the effect of their vote. This was on the basis that a reasonable voter could assume that the party represents, or is in some way associated with, these groups when that is not the case."

I suspected as much back in October  ; )

BLM applied 2 days ago to become a UK political party.

Slight correction: someone applied to register a party with that name.  Likewise, someone applied to register 'Northern Heart', but I suspect they didn't consult 'the North' first...

Sky make it clear that their

"support is for the moral cause and campaign, that Black Lives Matter, rather than for any political organisation.

We support the Premier League, its clubs and players who are making a powerful collective statement, that Black lives matter and there is no room for racism."

Which seems to be lost on many of the respondents here.

I'm tied into sky sports until later in the year but I'm tired of the Black lives matter politics. Can I cancel my subscription on these grounds.
