Sky sports supprt for BLM I understand Black lives matter but BLM is a political Party and I object

Why do I have to put up with flashing images of say no to racism across my TV in every replay in a football match

YES we need to stop racism but I object  to it being shoved down my throat every time I watch Football.

Can you please tell me when this is going to cease so I can cancel my sports subscription till it finishes

Thankyou

Tony

So far as I know, Sky haven't  announced any date by when their anti-racism support will end. You can cancel by calling to give the 31 days notice required.

Well, no.  A social movement which has political aspects, quite possibly (most social movements do), but not a 'Party': that's a distinct legal entity in UK legislation (registered as such with the Electoral Commission),  and broadcasting regulation of impartiality in party politics would then apply.

BLM applied 2 days ago to become a UK political party. The left-wing bias with Sky is now intolerable, yes I know I have to give 31 days notice to cancel my Sky TV & Broadband subscriptions and will be doing so today ending 30 years of using the service. Sky and the BBC seem to be heading in the same direction from national treasures to national jokes.

Sky state clearly that their "support is for the moral cause and campaign, that Black Lives Matter, rather than for any political organisation"

I'm suspicious about the motivation behind those who complain so strongly about Sky's anti-racism support.

Slight correction: someone applied to register a party with that name.  Likewise, someone applied to register 'Northern Heart', but I suspect they didn't consult 'the North' first...

Good job Sky have never expressed any support for any political party linked to BLM or even any who state they wish to remove the police.

@anthony+greatrex

If the application to the Electoral Commission is successful, presumably broadcasters would have to consider if undue visibility of a slogan could be perceived as partisan political expression in contravention of Ofcom guidelines.  Until then, they are under no obligation to do so.

The goal isn't to remove the police - it is to defund the police - that is to divert the funds to address the causes of crime rather than clean up after the crime has been committed. To shut the stable door before there is even a horse, never mind before it's bolted.

I had the same issues with the BLM logo appearing on the golf channel scorecard graphic.   Black lives, white lives, all lives matter! Sky couldn't tell me if or when the BLM would be removed so so I've since cancelled all my sky subscriptions totalling £135 p.m.

I too have had enough of this constant wokeness and it is with regret that I too have just cancelled my subscription.

Seems to me the weaponisation of the word "woke" is similar to the weaponisation of "political correctness" in the 90s.

Woke is actually defined as "being conscious of racial discrimination in society and other forms of oppression and injustice."

So being "woke" basically seems to mean "treat others with respect", and doesn't strike me as an insult.

Yes all this wokeness and BLM nonsense has driven me to cancel my total Sky package at the first opportunity. Sky get Woke go broke I am afraid.
