Hi guys, hopefully someone on here may be able to help me.
ok, just taken delivery of my glass tv, but for the life of me I can't get my external onkyo Av amp to work work the tv.
now,, I've connected the hdmi lead from the correct eARC hdmi port on the tv and to the sat input on my onkyo multimedia amp and nothing ?
I can't even select the HDMI eARC audio output tab in picture and sound settings.
Many thanks for the help in advance
Roy

You need to connect the hdmi cable from the TV to the hdmi output on your av receiver, not the sat imput. Thats to route picture and sound from a set top box to your TV. Look for the hdmi on your amp that's marked output and/or arc/e-arc. Hope that helps 🙂

Thank you for the reply,

all was working fine on my other tv so I know the amp works fine

Maybe switch of HDMI CEC on both the onkyo and the glass, power off at the mains wait two minutes and try again. Could be a HDMI handshake issue. Or could be the cable? What model is the AVR ?

It's an onkyo tx nr- 509 granted it's a few years old but have a cracking set up with my speakers, and don't really want to buy another amp.
just tried resetting mains on tv and amp still won't work.
the tv can tell there is something plugged into hdmi port 2.
hopefully it's just a setting in the tv or something like that

@Buzzerboyroy have you checked the sound settings I think there should be a setting in there about using external speakers or something

HDMI CEC is flakey and unreliable on the best of TV's. Often it's just trial and error

Thanks all for the replies,
still can't get it to work but will soldier on.
im still not 100% happy with sky glass, there are a few issues that need ironing out with the software by the looks of things.
the tv going black, then coming back on again, screen flickering on the top occasionally ( but seems to have got better since turning a few options off), internet connection issues on WiFi.
fingers crossed all will be ironed out with updates.
thanks again

Is your amp arc or eArc? My older
marantz NR1504 was also a great HMDI Av unit but wouldn't work.

No it's not arc or eARC, would of thought it would work with glass but obviously not so looks like a new amp needed to be able to use headphones and my 5.1 surround sound.
(that's if I don't send sky glass back)

This might be a silly question, but were you a previous sky q or sky+HD subscriber, and if so, do you still have your sky box plugged into your av receiver? If so, then disconnect it completely and try again.
I had a similar problem trying to get my receiver to work. Glass tv wouldn't switch to external speakers until I took away my old sky q box.

I remember having an older onkyo amp that was hdmi pass through only. Had to use optical or coaxial cables for sound and picture. If your amp doesn't support arc then I'm afraid there is no way of using it with your sky glass TV. Unfortunately it seems sky glass isn't fitted with an optical port for an alternative connection. So it's either use the inbuilt soundbar or purchase a more up to date avr.

Just read this on the Marantz forum, so sadly my amp is not compatible...
"Note that new hardware is required for eARC. Therefore, older AV receivers cannot be updated to receive eARC feature. On the other hand, all Marantz AV receivers featuring eARC will be backward compatible to ARC."

Before you think of forking out for a new AVR, I have posted a few comments in other discussions about my Pioneer AVR. (2 years old). It has ARC capability as opposed to eARC but it works in all respects except for one annoying feature. The remote that came with the Glass TV does not control the output volume of the AVR. (The remote that came with my old Sony TV did, and this should also apply to other brands). I currently have to use the Pioneer remote for volume and the Glass remote for all other tv functions. Not an ideal situation.
Another community user reported similar problems with a Sonos soundbar. I am trying to ascertain whether this problem is endemic or just confined to a few makes of AV devices.
And is there a problem with eARC devices talking to ARC equipment? As yet silence...

From what I've read, there is no way to use a external amp, there is no output on this tv, only input, as with the boxes you plug the hd cable from box to amp, then your output hd to your tv, there is barear@e on the back of glass, so if you have a surround sound with bells and whistles including atmos, it's useless for sky tv, fine for your other inputs blue ray, games console, on top of which if you want the bells and whistles on tv, you need to pay extra, I think sky need to look at this, seeing as 90% of sky isn't available in UHD/HDR or Dolby atmos.
