Re: Sky Q, mini box, and adding a dvd player

Having now connected my Q box, Sky sound box and a DVD player, all connected with hdmi, and all lit up so connected, I do not know how to access the DVD player with sky q remote controller.

How can I play  dvd?

Problem now sorted, still going through the new set up learning curve.

I have just upgraded to SkyQ and having exactly the same problem. My TV is also a Sony, as is my integrated dvd sound system. I was advised by an engineer to connect Sky box straight into TV, and comment SkyQ box to dvd player using an optical cable. It hasn't worked, so just using TV sound. It all worked perfectly when I had a Sky HD box.

Hi @Noah+70   Then connect it exactly the same way as you did with Sky+HD!

Re: Sky Q, mini box, and adding a dvd player

That's exactly what I did do. The engineer set it up. It suddenly stopped working. I tried different connections, and was advised to connect using an optical cable. I was hoping for a suggestion of something I haven't already tried. Thank you.

Hi @Noah+70   An optical connection is really a last resort option now-a-days as it is limited to the old audio formats. To take advantage of the latest DD+ format provided by Sky Q you need HDMI connection but I doubt that a DVD system supports it unless connected to your TV using the HDMI ARC port.

I would be very surprised if an integrated DVD audio system supported an ARC HDMI output from a modern TV

Re: Sky Q, mini box, and adding a dvd player

Hi @MightyQuinn and @nigea99

Thank you both. I resolved the issue last night in time for the football. A bit convulted though. SkyQ connected to Sony TV via HDMI. Optical cable connecting SkyQ to Sony sound system. HDMI connecting sound system to TV. I now have perfect sound and picture!

To be honest, I'm quite impressed overall as my TV is one of the earlier Sony  Bravia models, and the integrated blue ray sound system is also quite old now.
