Sky Q fan problems

Hi,

I have had Sky Q for a few months now but have a problem with my fan inside my main Sky Q box?
The fan comes on and stays on even if my box is on standby, this seems to happen randomly and only about once a month? The only way I can stop this fan from running is to unplug box from mains and restart it...then it's quite again until the next time...I have tried the reset and looking to see if there is any dust around box and its's still the same...
It does not do this all the time but surely this is not right? Any ideas…

Hi @IMPred   Is the box well ventilated in an open space and cool to the touch?

@IMPred

What do you mean by reset? Fan issues can often be solved by a Setting Reset (which isn't a full reset).

Go down to Settings but don't press Select. Instead type 0 0 1 Select to open the hidden menu. From there you can Reset Settings (you won't lose any recordings or preferences) which takes about 20 minutes. See if that helps sort things out.

Re: Sky Q fan problems

Yeah done all that resetting beofre and it's still doing it...

Box is in a TV unit with front open and plenty of rrom, box does not get hot...yesterday the box was on standby all day and in the evening i could hear the fan running box was still in standby mode, only way of stopping fan was to unplug then fan went off?

The fan on my box runs permanently too, even in standby. AFAIK it's a 'thing' with Sky Q - the fan changes speed depending on what the box is doing but the fan never entirely stops unless you turn the box off at the mains. Most of the time it's pretty silent but if you have a fan with a dodgy bearing then the sound can be extremely irritating. I swapped a V2 box and got a V3 as both the hard drive and fan on the V2 were ridiculously loud.

I've no idea why the fan needs to run constantly - I don't have any mini boxes, I don't actually record much and the box is on a completely open rack with air circulating all around and barely ever gets even close to warm. It's a pointless waste of energy if you ask me, and one of the many poorly designed 'features' of the Q box. My old 2TB Sky+HD box would spin down completely when in standby and was totally silent. Shame Q can't do the same.

Yesh i feel the same no idea why the fan has to run all the time...

But when fan is runing it's fine but it seems to run faster so gets louder and thats when it will not go off until i switch box off
