Re: Sky Q Remote

Everyone including LGUser and oldfella

Sky engineer came today. I now have a wired connection instead of a wireless connection.

My BT Smart Hub Router is now wired to the back of my Sky Q box via a cable running from the back of my BT Smart Hub  Router to the back of my Sky Q box.

I was also given a new Sky Q remote and all is working well. Sky Q remote is now connecting properly,  and I can use volume button, voice control and no annoying messages on my television when I turn Sky on saying I have no internet connection etc.

One small thing that the Sky engineer said was normal but I did not understand.

I have BT broadband via my Bt Smart Hub router and when I am at home and I turn my laptop and or mobile iphone on they connect to my BT broadband via my Bt Smart Hub Router and shows I am connected to BT network.

However I have noticed  when I go into my Sky Q box I go into settings and then Network Connection and then Network Setup the Network name is not BT network but Sky network. When I had a wireless connection it was showing the BT network. The Sky engineer says this is perfectly normal as I now have a wired connection

I hope the above makes sense.

No one has responded to my last message.

I hope it made sense. I am of an age where I find modern technology rather difficult

I don't think you need to be concerned. The engineer told you it was normal and both your Sky Q box and the remote are working normally.

Thanks for that.

I just wondered whether other contributors have the same thing.

I have until now always had a wireless connection from my BT router to my Sky box. Now I have a wired connection, my sky box setting is showing a Sky network connection instead of BT network connection., and my mobile phone, laptop etc is of course showing as usual my BT network connection which of course is being picked up from my router.

Hi @middlesex1993   If it works then don't try to fix it. Perfectly normal to show Skyxxxx as Network name or in my case the BT Router name I had years ago and not the current one.

Another community member with a cable connected Sky Q box may be along (edit: already has 🙂) to confirm what their's shows the network connection to be. What's displayed might be the result of an inconsequential bug.

But in any event, as you have a physical, cable from your Sky Q box it can only possibly be connected to your router.

Hi @middlesex1993

The SSID shown in Network in the Q box is of no concern and usually refers to an historical Q mesh.   This would relate to when you were using WiFi.

Re: Sky Q Remote

Thanks everyone.

Sadly as I say I am at an age where modern technology is totally beyond my comprehension most of the time.

I really do not understand why my Sky  Q box is now showing Sky network setting, even though I have a BT router and of course BT broadband  which is showing on my mobile phone and  laptop when I am at home When I had a wireless connection Sky Q box was showing my BT network setting.

As I said I assume this is because my BT router is now wired into my  Sky Q box via a cable.

All now seems fine so I will accept the above as normal until inevitably something goes wrong.

Not to worry @middlesex1993, it wasn't important.

Re: Sky Q Remote

Sadly this thread I started has not really helped me at all though I thank everyone for their replies which is very much appreciated.. I do find modern technology difficult to understand.

One last effort as perhaps I have not explained myself clearly.

Simce yesterday, I now have a Wired Connection set up by the  Sky  engineer which now has a cable running from the back of my BT Smart Hub Router to the back of my Sky Q box. When on my Sky Q box  I go into Settings. Network Connection and then Network Set Up the Network Name  is showing as Sky followed by some numbers.

My BT Smart Hub Router has of course a BT Wireless Network showing as BT followed by some numbers, which is the same BT Wireless Network picked up and showing on my laptop and iPhone when I am at home.
When up until yesterday  I had a Wireless Connection from my BT Smart Hub Router to my Sky Q box the. Network name recorded on my Sky Q box was the BT Wireless number as set out above.

I will leave this post as active over the weekend in the hope someone can explain this to me. Sorry once again for my lack of understanding of modern technology.

Thanks again everyone.

Hi @middlesex1993 the SKYnnnnn network that shows is the name of a wifi  network that the SKY Q main box generates for any SKY Mini boxes to connect to it - it is not available to you to connect to.

Do not concern yourself  about it - it is quite normal

Thanks for that. Thankfully I do not have mini boxes just my main Sky Q box.

I note you say all is okay and normal.

I have up until yesterday always had a wireless connection from my Sky box to my BT router.

The wired connection seems more reliable and I am now not losing internet connection on my Sky Q box

My Main boxes have always been connected to my BT Hub via ethernet and only ever had a couple of minor blips in approx  5 years  so I am sure it will be good for you.

Re: Sky Q Remote

nigea99. Thank you and you seem to be correct that a wired connection from my Sky box to my Bt router is more efficient than a wireless connection

I will not mark this thread as answered just in case others want to add to this thread.
