Sky Q - Ethernet Connection Via TPLink. Drops connection since Q160

Sky Q - Ethernet Connection Via TPLink. Drops connection since Q160

SKYQ - wired - TPLINK - TPLINK - Router

Three times since software q160 the main SkyQ box has lost connectivity via ethernet/wired.

The wireless channels are disabled.  A "network reset" fails to find an IP address.

Power off/on and all OK again.   Any thoughts?

This still occurs.  It's a three port TPLINK and switching ports on it make no difference.  Only when SkyQ is rebooted does it seem to reactivate the Ethernet port on SKY Q.  The third outlet of the TPLINK is connected to the TV which stays up regardless.

Additionally a Sky Q network reset also fails to make a difference.

@AT1

On the Sky Q box, go to Settings / Setup / Network / Advanced, and select Set Manually. This brings up a screen populated with numbers. Change DNS Server to 8.8.8.8 and press Confirm. It will drop out for a few secs while it reconnects.

Once reconnected, turn off the Sky Q box at the wall for 30 secs, then back on again and let it reboot fully. See if that helps sort things out.

Re: Sky Q - Ethernet Connection Via TPLink. Drops connection since Q160

@Rhonny
I tried the recommendation re manual IP address and 8.8.8.8 DNS.   Box did not reconnect.

Re-set to DHCP and rebooted.  As usual after a reboot/poweroff it worked fine.

Seems that only a reboot gets the ethernet port working again.

"Interestingly" the past 2 disconnections, Saturday PM, Wednesday AM correspond to the same day/time it went down last week.  Is there a way to check the DHCP lease time on the SkyQ Hub?  I wonder if it is related to a DHCP lease expiry.   Or could of course be coincidence.

Re: Sky Q - Ethernet Connection Via TPLink. Drops connection since Q160

Posted this on a couple of other threads but this was the one I started:

Is there any fix/workaround for the "main SkyQ box forgets all internet connectivity either wifi or ethernet" other than by power on/off?

My main box forgets about the internet on average once a week.  None of the steps previously mentioned here (reset, DNS to 8.8.8.8 etc) work.  Only a power on/off.  Nothing else needs to be changed as once it powers back on, the connection is restored.

Anyone else getting this?  Or similar?

@AT1I saw you were using TPLink, have a look at its settings and if it is in energy saving mode or similar turn it off. What can happen is that if the TPLink is in standby sometimes it will not wake up fast enough when the Q box wants to use it hence the Q box does not connect to the router.

ALSO

If you have not turned off the WiFi in the main box it may well have dropped the TPLink connection which it should see as Ethernet and try to connect to the router by WiFi which will need a password whereas Ethernet does not. If you have mini boxes you will need to leave the 5Ghz band on in the Q box, assuming Sky is not your ISP then the main box only uses 2.4Ghz to link to your router but links to mini boxes using Sky's mesh on 5Ghz Ch36.

Re: Sky Q - Ethernet Connection Via TPLink. Drops connection since Q160

Thanks for quick reply.

All the TPLINKs have power saving disabled already.  The TPLINK connecting to the SkyQ box is a three port passthrough with the second outlet also connected to the TV.  The TV connection never drops.

All SkyQ boxes (mini and main) have the WiFi disabled via the hidden settings menu.

Re: Sky Q - Ethernet Connection Via TPLink. Drops connection since Q160

@bob1234
Everything is connected by TPLINK.
Router -> TPLINK 1-> TPLINK 2-> SkyQ
                                      -> TPLINK3  -> SkyQMini1

                                      -> TPLINK4  -> SkyQMini2
                                      -> TPLINK5  -> SkyQMini3

All SkyQ and SkyQMini have their wifi disabled and connect via wired cable to "their own" TP LINK plug.

As soon as main SkyQ reboots and gets reconnected all the minis and any SkyGo devices connect back to it OK.

Re: Sky Q - Ethernet Connection Via TPLink. Drops connection since Q160

@AT1I assume that in settings on the main box it shows no internet connection. If you just wait without resetting does it connect.

If not when you look at the network settings what does it show.

Re: Sky Q - Ethernet Connection Via TPLink. Drops connection since Q160

@bob1234 It never resets "on its own" as such, without a power on/off.

The "Network Connection" has a X.

When trying a reset it fails to find a DHCP address.   Tried hardcoding/setting the IP address as a static but made no difference.   Once it drops, its gone.

Re: Sky Q - Ethernet Connection Via TPLink. Drops connection since Q160

@AT1

Have you opened the admin pages of each of your TP-Link plugs to check they are all on the same security setting as the router (ie WPA2, TKIP, etc). The smallest difference between settings on the TP-Links can make all the difference in reliability. Make sure they are all set the same, and that the security matches the router.

@Rhonny The TPLink tool shows them all set to the same settings.
