Sky Q Box optical out

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

I just bought some RF wirelesss headphones (Sennheiser RS 175-U) so I can listen to movies/music anytime at any volume without annoying the neighbours.

I have the transmitter/docking station connected by optical to TV and can get all SkyQ content, TV Apps (Netflix, Prime. Amazon music HD, Disney+) sound to headphones, so no problem there.

My question is for watching Sky Q content, would it be better to connect optical from transmitter to Sky box to, for example, improve sound quality ?

I haven't tried it yet, but if there will be no difference, and to save keep swapping cables, will  just leave it as it is.

An optical cable can convey a maximum of Dolby Digital. If your TV can pass Dolby Digital to your transmitter, then connecting it directly to the Sky box will make no difference. And besides, it's always best to connect the optical to your TV so that you hear whatever the TV is showing, otherwise you would be watching a built in TV app but hearing Sky Q.

@Rhonny  thanks for that. Had a feeling they'd be no difference.

What I'm saying is if you had the optical from Sky Q to the transmitter, you'd need to keep swapping the cable back to the TV whenever you weren't watching Sky. Which would be a royal pain.

(Maybe I'm stating what you're stating, I'm not sure!)
