So new box has arrived and it indeed is HDR capable. Just a quick question? My original box was a 2GB V1. I know this due to the silver trim on the box. However, is their a way to determine if this new box is a V2 or V3? Hardware version is 32B206 if that's any help. Cheers in advance.
That's a v3 box. Assume it doesn't have an external power supply?

Not that hard to stream now if you have right infra structure. 1gb networks quite cheap now.
Unfortunately the vast majority of Mini viewers won't have nice reliable gigabit ethernet cabling and switches to shunt data between rooms: they will be using barely-adequate-for-HD Q WiFi from the main box....

@Piesarus wrote:We have decided to try the isf expert 'bright room' setting on our LG C9 (so that should please some people). We can probably live with this. We are also content with 'cinema home' for both Netflix and HDR on Prime. However, try as we might neither the wife or I can live with the user preset 'cinema mode' as it's simply too dark for our lounge which is a very bright room. Age could also be a factor as to our eyes this setting makes everything look drab.
I'll assume I am the 'some people'😉.
Don't do anything to please me, I am only trying to help people get the most out of their TV. A TV is a not so inconsiderable purchase; so, why wouldn't anyone want to get the most out of it?
Bravo to you for trying the 'isf Expert Bright Room' preset. You only need to use this for SDR material (non-HDR). And the good thing is that most of the motion processing options are disabled by default when using this preset.
In fact, the only adjustment that needs to be made is the colour gamut from wide to auto (it's under 'Expert Controls'.
Not only will your eyes thank you for switching, so will the TV as the more colour accurate a TV is, the more energy efficient it is too.
If any preset looks dull or you feel the PQ degrades during the course of the day, you should double check you don't have any ECO options on by default that adjust the backlight according to the ambient light in your viewing area. Go to 'Picture > Energy Saving = off'
With regard 'Cinema Home' for Dolby Vision content, if you wish to stick with this preset, please consider reducing the sharpness down from 20 to 10. The flatpoint (nothing added, nothing taken away) on the C9 is 10. Why LG raised it to 20 on this single preset, nobody knows and they didn't answer me when I contacted them.
The LG C9's "out of the box image accuracy is stunning" using the 'isf Expert' presets. Not my words, the words of reviewer and calibrator Phil Hinton, please refer to here - https://www.avforums.com/reviews/lg-c9-oled65c9-oled55c9-oled77c9-4k-oled-tv-review.15745
Enjoy!

Re: Sky HDR
Yes I was a V1 owner. My previous box had been switching off during watching. Started every once in a while but happened more and more recently. Plus was hot to touch. Held off requesting a new box because of mine and kids recordings. But the HDR issue made up my mind to contact sky. Think I'm lucky though to receive a V3 box as I'm sure you just get what the engineer has on the van at the time.

All of the boxes are hot to the touch but, the v1 and v3 more so as the power supply is internal. It's not a fault, it's the way they work/are designed😉.

Re: Sky HDR
Regarding the LG isf expert 'bright room' preset. One thing I have found and it's particularly noticeable with the sidebar text in SkyQ EPG - the text looks soft like it's slightly out of focus. It's really noticeable if you cycle through the other presets where with some the text is noticeably sharper. I wonder whether it's related to the sharpness setting with isf expert mode being neutral whereas with some other presets it's set at 20?

The sharpness default on all of the presets, with the exception of 'Cinema Home', a preset only available when the TV receives a Dolby Vision trigger flag, is 10.
10 is the flat point on this particular model TV, the C9, which translates to nothing added, nothing taken away - no additional processing to the image.
I can only suggest when using a different preset, which you're used to, there's been some sort of motion processing enabled that has smoothed out the image to give it the appearance it is sharper.
So, if you move the number on sharpness up or down from it's default of 10, you're adding processing to the image you see and thus see unwelcome artifacts elsewhere on the screen.

That's incorrect as every manufacturer and panel is different. There is no blanket setting that suits every TV, period.
Every TV will have it's own flat point of no additional processing.
Again, a calibrator, certainly one of the reputation of Vincent (who calibrated my last TV, a Panasonic DX902) will tell you when it comes to sharpness, nothing added, nothing taken away, so as not to add processing to the image.
