I've have the SkyQ 2TB box the newer version and I have a Samsung 4k UHD HDR10+ engine, watching the lemurs on screen yesterday was out of this world experience the intense colour the sound the graphics and technology, is worth having HDR built in your TV.. Oh watch the nature programmes on the on demand service as it downloads in HDR format also my TV inhances films old and new watching the latest star wars movie in UHD HDR wow.. My TV is only just over a year old.. Any other tvs which are more than 2 years old arnt HDR compatible make sure you have the SkyQ 2TB which has the HDR chip already inside it..

@Winch50  If you're employing the faux HDR setting on your TV, the same setting as can be found on Apple TV that outputs everything in Dolby Vision, what you are in fact doing is accelerating the demise of your screen by employing the backlight on full, all of the time.

A sure fire TV killer. It would be wise to use it sparingly, if at all.

There's no HDR chip per se', it's a HDMI chipset (that needs to be equally capable throughout your video chain) that determines the ouput of HDR.

@Howardmicks

Yes I am one of the unlucky ones got skyq from launch so got 2tb v1 box,yes Im gutted and a tad annoyed..But end of day its only a rental,nothing much In hdr yet anyway and uhd his awesome quality thru sky....disney,netflix,apple TV and amazon i watch all thru TV in hdr so real issue yet...Will see what sky do about it first before make any decisions...

This level-headed wisdom is worth pinning at the top of every page in this thread for everyone to see.

@Piesarus  it's a gamble, if i lose i shall have to wait for whenever the process comes my way.. but it is a issue that i am certain i have read on various forum's, that people have swapped there boxes for the very same reason's .

@JOHNGALLEY Yes they may have but why  wait until  4 years  have passed to actually say you have had this  issue since 2016 but only now you want to do something about it cause your box doesn't support HDR.

And you are expecting Sky to replace it with a V2 or V3 box and you are wondering why Sky will only swap a V1 2TB Sky Q box for another V1 2TB Sky Q box.

Re: Sky HDR

@best+of+the+best What are you criticising me for putting up with it for 4 years while others have not.. strange way of looking at things, what i should have requested another V1 box that has the same issue.. anyhows if i am offered a V1 i will politely decline .. because that is the sort of person i am.

As i have  no option to quote your post .. thats your interpretation of my intent .. mine is it's a coincidence.

Re: Sky HDR

Just checked mine on the Lemur program and I see the TV Res does change to 3840 x 2160 and does appear to be a difference compared to the difference with UHD.

The drives inside Sky Q have been repurposed. They are intended for secuirty systems and as such, are always on.

Hence, the constant whir or hum you can hear.

They're 'encased in breathable plastic' (Sky's words, not mine) to assist in heat dissipation, so I imagine, quite thin plastic too.

I found by entering the service menu and disabling the push for on demand content, the box is a lot quieter.

Maybe it is of interest to you, should you have to live with a v1 for a bit longer chap😉.

Re: Sky HDR

@Paddya

3840x2160 is just UHD and not an indication it's HDR.

Which version box do you have and which TV model?

Re: Sky HDR

@michaelcft  and yet again no mention of V3 boxes for about the third/fourth time.  Not going to repeat myself any more but hey!

Re: Sky HDR

@rozel  Maybe down to if V2 boxes were able to update to HDR stands to reason V3 would also.

Re: Sky HDR

@JOHNGALLEY  no, if lists are being published, then they should be complete.  There's been much talk of the V3 boxes on here, so no excuse.

@Kei+M  So if my V1 box develops a fault you replace it with a V1 box.. and that makes sense to whom.

  @JOHNGALLEY  So, if your old Mini Cooper broke down you'd expect it to be replaced with a new Porsche?

Re: Sky HDR

Whoever wrote Sky's business plan for this needs to go back to school. They've got it totally back to front and have managed to fall behind their rivals whilst promising "Believe in better". First rule of marketing...live up to your strapline. I've no axe to grind...I've got HLG but...I really sympathise with those with non-HLG boxes. The fact that there's only 20 hours of HDR content is not the issue. No one talked to them prior to the release. This is a PR error of epic proportions. Typical Sky. I've been with them for around 30 years. Sky used to be peerless, now it's a struggling broadcaster in quality terms. BT, Prime, Netflix, Disney...all attacking from various flanks often with a superior product. Sky has become, in my humble opinion, a bit of a complacent fatcat. It happens so often. You reap what you sow...
