Re: Sky HDR

I absolutely guarantee the upgrade path will come at a cost. its clear to me they will offer an upgrade for more money..think about it...theres at least a million V1 boxes in the field, there not going to upgrade all them for free. it is a disgrace..even some of the comments of the sky employees is questionable...as if to say tough if your a V1 owner, dont try it on to get another box..like its our fault! ....i will vote with my wallet, so in the long run sky will lose lots of custom as people will simple cancel there contract, as the service is not the same for everyone!

Re: Sky HDR

@gems+151 Sorry but your analogy is complete nonsense.

You don't rent am iPhone you buy it over the course of a contract or outright.

I rent my Sky Q box therefore if new features are added that my box isn't compatible with, that means it gets replaced as you are no longer getting the full service you were before. The platform hasn't changed

Re: Sky HDR

They said it on this thread to if the box wasn't faulty they won't replace it with a new one so they are lying about the boxes they have them but trying to keep them for new customers yet again sky double standards

Re: Sky HDR

@gems+151 You might be right but I resubbed last year and I also asked the HDR question of if they know or not and explicitly stated I was looking forward to the day it launched and here today I am not getting it. Weather that counts is another matter completely as in my mind I was renewing with the hope of HDR as well some day.

This is still bad practice by sky launching a product update and then telling those who were unfortunate to get the old boxes to wait. They could of held off until they got everyone replaced and launched with plenty of content not this sharade we currently got.

Who at sky says how long I have to wait and who gets to make the worst customer relation decisions. Will I be waiting months or a year before they finally get round to giving me a capable box. In all seriousness I should not be waiting at all. If my TV did not support it fine thats a different argument but mine does as does a few others.

Re: Sky HDR

Sky has launched three new on-demand nature programmes featuring high dynamic range (HDR) for Sky Q customers.

HDR offers a greater range of colours, making pictures more vivid and realistic than before.

But Sky viewers will need a Sky Q 1TB or 2TB set-top box and a Sky Experience or Ultra HD subscription to see the difference.

Previous reports had suggested Sky wouldn’t launch HDR until late 2020.

It coincides with the launch of Sky’s new nature channel on Wednesday  HDR IS READY !!!! BUT YOUR BOX ISNT unless you are A new Customer with V2 OR V3 box this is why so many are angry with Sky because early adopters of SKY Q are being short changed again !!!!

I hope you're stamping your feet too.

Re: Sky HDR

@garybarnes   To whom are you referring exactly?  I believe you will find that there are a lot of members on here not belittling other members who you believe have V2/V3 boxes.  A lot of the more senior members on here have V1 boxes too.

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey you are likely to be given an identical replacement if they bother to come out as you box is not faulty. if you damage a box or they come out and the box is 100% ok you leave yourself lisble to a charge for the call out - like a missed appointment.

To be clear Sky are not going to replace boxes at the moment because they  are non HDR capable. Somewhere back a fair few pages are posts by Sky staff saying that. It is probably unfair and unreasonable and I am not going to defend their decision. There are hints it will change at some point before main line HDR content appears like movies or sport.

Re: Sky HDR

When Sky have enough stock of HDR compatible boxes available in the next couple of months, to swap out what may be a substantial customer base running into 100’s of thousands or more, rather than overburdening their engineers, whose primary job is installation and repairs, let's hope they offer a self installation program.

To choose this option a customer would be required to deposit a refundable on return upfront sum, the equivalent of the non return fee on debit or credit card and be willing to pay for a courier drop off and collection.

Obviously not everyone would be in a position to use this delivery system but surely implementing something similar to this would substantially expedite the rollout and reduce the demand on their engineers?

Re: Sky HDR

@JOHNGALLEY   I'm wondering how many early Adopters actually had the foresight to negotiate a V1 to a V2 or V3 box, when they became out of contract?  This whole saga has been debated on this and other forums for a long time.  I would argue that if they didn't for one reason or the other then that's down to them and can't blame whoever for the fact they cannot get HDR-HLG now.  Most people on here are enthusiasts and should have been aware this would be an issue if they did not act.

Almost by definition quite a high proportion of those who have been posting since this particular forum was created are likely to have v1 boxes.  Mine's a bit over four years old now.
