Re: Sky HDR

Oh look, my V1 box isn't compatible with those 3 programs currently available. IM SHOCKED I TELL YA, SHOCKED.

Ho hum, ill pay for an upgrade once/if HDR is broadcast rather then on demand. Chose to be an early adopter so thems the breaks. There is nothing for the foreseeable future that I'm interested in.

Re: Sky HDR

That's true but HDR is only a piece of metadata that either gets sent at the beginning of the content or for every frame to switch the TVs mode. It should have been available in one format or another at the launch of Sky Q not years later. UHD and HDR come as a package

Sky need to employ software engineers who aren't completely useless, supporting only a single format is ridiculous in itself. By all means use HLG for live sport etc, but why not support Dolby Vision and HDR10 for other content? They already pay a license for Dolby Atmos

Re: Sky HDR

Is there a dedicated help page, announcement page, guide page or information page on the launch of HDR.

I am guessing i am one of those who cant get HDR as I have a Sky Q 2TB - 32B059 box? I have tried and the only options are for UHD on the Lemur program. No sign of HDR 😞

I guess what I am asking is, have sky or can sky please be open and honest about this launch with FAQs, who can, who cant and what anyone (if anything) can do about it?

HLG didn't exist when Q was launched - that standard was only agreed in late 2016, so it would have been impossible for Q to support it at launch.

The BBC also use a single format for all  HDR, be it live sport or on demand content - it makes far more sense for them as it greatly simplifies the backend systems (one single HLG version of the content can be used for both SDR and HDR).

Licensing costs for DV are far more than that for Atmos, hence the reason it tends to not be supported on anything but higher end TVs.

Tells you exactly which boxes support HDR.  As yet there's not a process for a box swap, but that will be happening at some point. Probably before they increase the amount of HDR content too much .

Re: Sky HDR

Yeah I have seen this link and seen my box is not HDR ready. However, I hoped there may be a page listing FAQs and how it all works and who for. Its all just a bit cloak and dagger and hard to find

HLG HDR is not any metadata, which is why it's being used.

Supporting only one format - a format designed specifically for broadcast - is far from ridiculous. Why bother with other formats, and having to offer multiple download options, when the one format not only covers all bases but it also covers UHD (SDR) too, all in the one file?
