Re: Sky HDR

@Rhonny  Ohh lol!  But sorry again.  As you correctly predicted, this thread has gone ballistic so it's difficult to keep up lol.  Good to know there are no switching issues if you plug the Sky Q box directly into the One Connect box 🙂  Yes, I believe the auto switching should be good but it isn't.  I am pretty sure it's my Receiver now - previously I experienced this issue on my Roku and Amazon devices so thought it might be those at "fault".  But given the same thing is happening with my Sky Q box, then it has to be the Receiver.  I route the Video into my Receiver in order to receive Surround Sound through my Home Theatre Setup.  I also take an optical cable from the Q box into a Sony Soundbar, when not wanting to use the HTS.  When watching Gangs of Lemur earlier, I didn't use the HTS  - my receiver continues correctly to route the video, when in standby.  I think I'll post on the Yamaha forum for a solution, if one exists.

I don't believe Sky has ever said anything about Covid-19 being a reason for not swapping boxes. That's just what a number of people have surmised, and so (this forum being what it is), this has now become gospel. They're just not swapping boxes out right now.

It's more that  they don't want to trigger a huge volume of support calls in a very short space  of time until they can upscale call centre numbers to cope with it, as far as  I can tell.

Re: Sky HDR

Let's see if we can get this thread up to 100 pages by tonight. And if people can avoid bothering to read anything before posting so that everyone has to repeat everything, that would help.

If you could also avoid Googling how to set up HDR on your TV, and not ascertain which version box you've got, that will help pile on the pages.

Finally if you could make the assumption that Sky won't be swapping out the v1 boxes, or that if they do that they will charge you, and make threats to leave that you have no intention of following through on, we might even make it to 150 pages.

Come on, gang. We can do this.

@rscott there's probably less engineers working as well for home visits my mate for.one is not working at the minute due to no child care and he's a sky engineer. I might tell him there's a family in Durham who can help him to allow him to get back to work people need hdr compatible boxes

Re: Sky HDR

So, in the last few pages I've read many conflicting posts.  Some people say the v1 2Tb will be upgraded later, but Sky are still working on it.  Some people say the hardware can't do it.

I would agree with the hardware on the 1tb not being up to scratch as it couldn't do 4k UHD, but the v1 2Tb could do UHD so the hardware is probably good enough and we're just waiting for the software.

But does anyone know for sure?

I'm still happy if it turns out I got a 2tb for free instead of the new 1tb I ordered, because at the moment I prefer the extra capacity than just a handful of nature programmes, and if the 2tb gets upgraded later in the year before all the HDR movies appear, then great.

I would hate to complain to Sky and get the new 1tb UHD I should have received, halving my storage capacity, then find out the 2tb gets upgraded later in the year anyway!

Re: Sky HDR

@gems+151 problem is there isn't an alternative provider.

Virgin doesn't have a comparable offer (missing lots of content, and terrible boxes), and well....there isn't anyone else.  If you want a live TV service and want to watch the content sky provide, then you are SOL with any other legal provider.

Re: Sky HDR

@reebokrebel

V1 2tb boxes can't and won't do HDR.

Sky has given no timeframe for replacement boxes.

@reebokrebel The hardware on the V1 box will not be able to deal with HLG, as has been posted before, it was late 2016 when the standards for  HLG were ratified and the V1 box is based on 2014 technology

Re: Sky HDR

@Rhonny ,

Ok thanks for that.

Dilemma time then.   I was initially overjoyed to get the 2tb instead of the 1tb UHD thinking I was on to a winner, but the "none left on my van so we're giving you a £200 box for free" was probably a ploy to get rid of the old 2tb stock hanging around in the warehouses.

Re: Sky HDR

@Minni3  they maybe others with Samsung TVs but I was under the impression hdr+ is not HDR and it's a fake effect to apply to SDR images @Rhonny  am I correct

Re: Sky HDR

@Minni3  The newly introduced HDR+ Mode will improve your picture quality even further by adjusting the color and brightness range, ensuring that your standard dynamic range (SDR) content will look likeHDR content.(direct from the Samsung website)

You are not getting HDR with this enabled
