So the 2TB UHD box without external power supply is the version 1? Should Sky be unable to upgrade my box at this time, how do I go about arranging a discounted subscription to account for this?

The 2TB which shipped when Q was launched is the non-HDR version.  If your box has an HDMI input on the back (possibly covered) then it'll need exchanging.

Given that HDR is a zero cost option and isn't even available yet, I think any talk of discount is somewhat premature.

@rscott  Please explain how exactly you justify what boxes can and can't please

Re: Sky HDR

It doesn't change the fact that I'm being charged the same as someone who is receiving a superior service.  Sky must realise that this is only going to create ill will. They should have postponed the roll out until it can be provided to all those who want it.

Information published elsewhere on several sites and confirmed by Sky.

That's why it's a very low key rollout, with only a very small range of HDR content. They won't expand that range until they have a box replacement programme up and running.

Re: Sky HDR

According to Forbes, Sky have confirmed to them that any 2TB box is fine, even if it doesn't have a separate power supply. Now, that could be confusion, and was only meant to include the 2TB v3 box and still exclude the 2TB v1 box, but it is more likely down to the fact that the 2TB v1 box always had HDMI 2.0 capable hardware and only launched with 1.4 initially before receiving a firmware upgrade. Considering it can deliver 50fps UHD content I don't see why it could still be 1.4, and if it IS 2.0 I don't see why it couldn't do HDR. As per this post as well: https://www.avforums.com/threads/sky-q-v3.2275330/

So I am fairly confident that the only boxes that can't do HDR are the 1TB v1, and of course the Minis - i.e. anything that can't do UHD to begin with.

@rscott  I would have thought what Sky have said on this would have been published on here or somewhere accessible to members.  And I simply don't believe anything said on other sites.  To be fair I would have thought you would refer to what you are saying by providing links, unless you are trying to keep a tin lid on things before fireworks next week?   🎆

Re: Sky HDR

@Quark  especially Forbes - do they get anything right? And it's painfully obvious why the V1 1TB box and the minis don't

Re: Sky HDR

Yes, so the question remains - does the v1 2TB support it? And I disagreee with the general consensus that it doesn't support HDR, because it does appear to support HDMI 2.0 - as confirmed by someone with a HD Fury and the fact it can do UHD with more than 30 fps.

The v1 2TB  supports UHD via HDMI2.0, but does not support HDR.  If it didn't why would Sky be talking about a replacement programme for these boxes (as evidenced by the internal Sky info posted on various sites, including the overclockers forum).

Re: Sky HDR

Yes, I think I know of the guy with the HD Fury and would believe anything he says if he's the guy I'm thinking you mention.   He made excellent contributions in the Samsung forum as well as in forums on here.

Re: Sky HDR

@Windy33

There is a power brick on the power cable.
