Sky Fibre RJ45 compatible modems?

I've just moved into a new flat with Sky Fibre and my broadband's coming in over RJ45. I want to use my TP-Link AC2300 (potentially the Unifi UDM in the future) as it has some networking features, like setting the DNS, that I usem but doesn't seem to support the Sky DCHP Option 61. I've connected it currently to my Sky Hub, so it opperates on 192.168.1.1 with the Sky Hub on 192.168.0.1. However when doing a speed test I'm getting ~95mbps, whereas when I connect my computer directly to the Sky Hub, i'm getting ~140mbps.

I see people talking about the Draytek Vigor 130 modem, but it seems that's for the older ADSL connection from a phone line? Does anyone have recommendations for a newer modem that supports my broadband coming in over RJ45? It looks like they have a Vigor 166 with RJ-11 and 2 RJ45 LAN ports, not sure if you can use the LAN port to receive?

I won't be using the VOIP service, but do have a Sky Q box being installed if that affects anything.

Thanks

The draytek 130 is vdsl compatible but hard to find last time i looked. The 166 is vdsl and g.fast but expensive. This i found recently tp link td w9970 is a vdsl modem router that can be put into modem bridge mode.

Instructions for setting up tp link td w9970 as modem bridge and is £35

select sky vdsl from isp list
https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/faq/1332/

However you do say there is a r45 connection. Make sure you do not have a wall mounted ultrafast ont modem

Scrap that , it does appear to be dsl.

The are plenty of combo modem routers with dual wan. .

On re reading

"when I connect my computer directly to the Sky Hub, i'm getting ~140mbps"

At that speed with r45 i am sure you are ultrafast fttp with an ont modem. In that case a vdsl modem is neither required nor compatible .please clarify your connection type g.fast or full fibre?

@BottledUpJam suspect you have a link to a fibre service with the ONT being in a service cupboard in your block, if so do not require a modem. You can check quite simply if your Sky hub conects by a cable to LAN port 4 then you do not need a modem.

A straight forward router with a WAN port like your ac2300 is likely to work. There are 2 methods of authentication  the first is to use the same log in used for authenticating MER connections but if your router supports DHCPv6 PD you should not require any log in details it should just connect.

Ses this thread for how one user conected a similar TP-Link router.

In addition to what @Chrisee  has said if it is a tp link vr model the modem on tp link should be bridged by plugging rj45 into internet port (blue ethernet slot) and in advanced setting change to wireless router. Unfortunately this disables isp profiles and only allows pppoe authentication. .

You will need to authenticate via dhcpv6 prefix delegation as follows

Select the WAN interface section of router GUI, then select dual-stack option WAN interface for IPv4 & IPv6, for the address select DHCPv6 (dynamic option not static), enable prefix delegation (PD) on WAN and then select SLACC for IPv6 creation method on LAN interface.

Re: Sky Fibre RJ45 compatible modems?

Thanks for that link @Chrisee, I've gone ahead and reset my router, enabled the Dynamic IP IPv6 option and set it to DHCPv6 in the Get IPV6 setting. Then in the 'Internet' (IPv4) setting I've left that as Dynamic. I'm not getting any IP addresses assigned and it not connecting. I've checked the system logs they're not offering up any details either. Below are screenshots of what I've configured, as far as I can tell they're the same as the ones in the linked thread.

I'm at a loss as for what i'm missing here.

@cookiemonsteruk the broadband comes in as RJ45 and just connects via ethernet to LAN1 on the Sky Hub, or the blue 'Internet' port on the back of my TP-Link AC2300.

It would come as ethernet when you already have a gpon modem. Your post refers  to a dsl modem with ethernet wan which you almost certainly do not need.

"broadband comes in as RJ45 and just connects via ethernet to LAN1"

Additionally the wan port is marked wan and would be lan4 on the sr203

Re: Sky Fibre RJ45 compatible modems?

I see thank you. Should I make a separate post reguarding the configuration of my TP-Link AC2300 for sky fibre?

Those are the accepted steps for setting tp link to replace the sr203. Which in you case seems to be misbehaving

@mae-3    any other suggestions ?

Re: Sky Fibre RJ45 compatible modems?

@BottledUpJam

The Sky SR203 isn't required if you use your own router that has a WAN port (ethernet RJ45 socket) that connects to the ONT, and then the settings you have chosen for connecting to Sky will work.

If you are connecting the TP-Link AC2300 to the Sky router then the setup is completely different than that advised, eg: you bridge it or put up with double NAT.

Re: Sky Fibre RJ45 compatible modems?

@mae-3

I'm a little confused now. So the ideal setup would be my TP-Link AC2300 plugged in directly, removing the sky hub altogether. Am I mistaken in thinking I can do that, with the pictured above settings? I essentially want to remove the sky hub from the equation, even if it mean purchasing other equipment.

Thanks
