SKY Q Box invalid BDPU invalid forward delay timer

Morning,

I currently have a 2TB box and 3 mini boxes. I am currently using a full UniFi network with the boxes connected via a 24 Port UniFi Switch. The switch is reporting "BPDU is blocked by invalid forward-delay timer", which is flooding the logs and causing an occasional crash. The error is only produced by the main box.

There is another user on the UniFi forum with the same issue.

As a workaround I have disabled STP on the port however it's not ideal. According to UniFi support the BDPU should be between 4 - 30 seconds, however it is sending requests well over that!

Is there a way to feedback this issue to Sky. Im sure it's common across all boxes, however UniFi switches are logging it as they are managed.

Is BPDU the same as SSDP?

The main Sky Q box issues 125 SSDP packets every minute, and each minibox also issues 60 SSDP packets per minute. Sadly this is normal behaviour that has been discussed previously.

As far as I'm aware they are different BPDU is the deal with Spanning Tree Protocol and preventing network loops. I assume it's to do with the mesh that it builds.

The SSDP packets are to do with discovery I believe?

I know nothing about UniFi networks, but if all your Q boxes are connected via a 24 Port Switch, presumably you could turn WiFi off on all the Q boxes to disable the Q-mesh.

Hi,

Yes, the WiFi is turned off on all of them, they still mesh together it seems.

Hi @J.B.567

To clear the previous WiFi settings it's necessary to carry out a Network reset on each Q box.   Don't carry out any WPS and wait for the box to connect by Ethernet.

Immediatly the box has connected,   go into the hidden menu and turn off both bands of WiFi.  Confirm before exit.

Repeat on all Q boxes.

I dont see any issue on disabling STP on the access ports that your SkyQ devices are connected. Is there a reason you think you need it enabled?

No issues, it's just the fact the box is producing BPDU packets far more regularly than it should.

Hi @J.B.567

Not that I understand any of the details but it has been reported that Jumbo frames should be enabled when working Q with Managed switches.   Don't know if this is relevant for you.
