Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

It's all smoke and mirrors the deals the big broadcast companies do to secure the rights to show the season!! Tax avoidance and as much profit as possible! Nothing fair about big sports on tv anymore it's the fans that keeps the sports going not them making deals behind a desk

Realistically many 'sports' are only kept going by those deals for television rights.  As discussed in the article I linked to above the current structure of F1 couldn't come close to covering its own costs from circuit ticket sales, on-track receipts, advertising and merchandise.

Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

For anyone that thinks that £18 is a reasonable price for Sky FQ, then why is it only £6.99 to get F1 TV which arguably gives more content than sky and all races live. Also now with VPN's that content is easily accessible.

Most of us on here are only saying that £18 is too much and would accept £10 as a much fairer price. Fed up with being treated like a cash cow just because I live in the UK.

@Andre12  Legally you can't get full race coverage in uk on F1tv because sky's exclusive deal forbids it, if people want to use other methods to get it that's there choice

What you think is 'fair' is subjective.  If you don't think it's fair then don't pay.  Sky aren't going to offer it at £10 because of this.

As I've said already, you can get it cheaper...

I felt £30k was a fair price for a £50k car - they turned me down... 🤔

Again, if the 'owners' of a sport are prepared to accept a huge sum from a particular platform for exclusive distribution rights in a country, it can hardly be a huge suprise when that platform seeks to make its money back (and preferably some profit on top).  'Fairness' doesn't come into it: it's a cold financial calculation.

@PandJ2020

Yes, "fair" is typically subjective but not in the case of Sky's F1 pricing. If the £50k car you are interested in, is available elsewhere for £30k you can reasonably suggest that £50k is not a fair price - and you can also buy it from someone that is asking £30k if the £50k seller won't budge. F1 is £18 per month in the UK and clearly available around the world for considerably less but can't be bought any other fully legal way - that's not fair.

Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

I had a Now TV offer of Sky Sports (all 11 channels inc. F1) for 12 months at £18.99 a month; I let it go (it expired yesterday, 16th).

Because everything else costs the same everywhere?

Countries which have F1TV streaming of live races available to their population by definition don't have an exclusive 'broadcast partner', either because such an arrangement isn't possible under national television regulation or no locally licenced broadcaster was prepared to pay enough to secure such a deal. It's up to the owners of the product to do their sums and decide which route generates the return on investment they are looking for (and, of course, if they actually care anything about loyal fans).
