Works fine as long as a sufficient number of people keeping paying.  I'm not sure reducing the price on the assumption more people would watch is valid: there's only a finite number of viewers for any sport within the general population, and F1 is frankly a fairly specialist interest.

@McGowan31 Dropping the price to £10 wouldn't double the viewing at all, as soon as Sky dropped the price some people (those who don't currently subscribe) would say it should be £5.

As for it being a terrible business plan im not sure your correct, if it was then Sky wouldn't make the profits they do each year or have the number of subscribers they do.

Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

Specialist interest? That's the same with all sports except F1 has its own channel.
£10 a month would see double the current subscription. There are channels on sky included in other packages that most people will never watch..

Children like to watch F1 also and £18 a month isnt pocket money it takes it away from normal household incomes and becomes less main stream

Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

You would presume so it's the same old thing as long as people continue to pay they will keep increasing it. They might be generating the same revenue but they will definitely have fewer viewers and that's no good for the companies advertising with them.

Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

My Sky offers are £25 for Sports or £18 for F1.

But I think I'll give F1 a miss anyway, as I don't want to invest my time watching it only to have the officials turn it into a farce with their endorsement of rule-breaking and attempts to gamify the results.

So even if it were offered at £10 or even £5/month, I'd still probably not take up the offer.

Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

The superusers and oracle's must get some really great deals from sky as they shoot down anyone that takes issue with them like Sky is a sainted company. Some of their language is quite dismissive of other sky customers and makes this environment quite toxic sometimes. DaveNOS I would subscribe if it was £10 as that seems a fairer price for the one sport when it's only a few pounds more for all of them. I was annoyed last year as several people got it for that price (they even showed their bills to prove it) and the only reason I wasn't subscribed is that I was advised by a sky employee to cancel over winter break as would be able to continue for £10 a month when it restarted.

Can I just ask that people understand that some of us are upset with Sky and that's ok.

My son has started to play F1 games and wanted to watch the season but at £18 it's too much £10 is reasonable

Why should Sky Sports F1 be any cheaper than subscribing to just one of the other sports channels (eg Golf)?

@rscott  Exactly, we rarely ( if at all) see complaints about other single sports channels so why should F1 be given special treatment

Anyone can go and have a game of golf at any golf club or driving range that gets you into the sport. No one can't just climb into an F1 car and enjoy it

@McGowan31 You keep saying that £10 a month would double the viewers so could you show us proof of that statement?

When the £10 deal was offered it didn't add significant new subscribers, if it did then maybe Sky/Comcast would have taken notice and dropped the price.

@Andre12 neither the Oracles or Superusers get any deal on subscriptions that aren't offered/available to every Sky customer, we are dismissive of some ideas and opinions because quite frankly they are ridiculous or without any merit.

I fully get that some are angry with Sky and thats yours and their right, Sky are far from a perfect or sainted company.

Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

@daveNOS . I think you just proved my point. 'we are dismissive of some ideas and opinions because quite frankly they are ridiculous or without any merit'. Kind of proves what the Oracle's and superusers think of people. I have no idea what you get from being like this, and I actually find it more concerning that you are doing it without getting anything from sky. At least if that was the case I could slightly understand where you are coming from.

@Andre12 It doesn't prove your point at all, the way i think about people is no reflection on the other superusers or Oracles, if you stay around the forum long enough you will kind of see why i have that attitude with some, most of the ideas or opinions here by some are ridiculous and without merit, they are often thrown out there without a single thought as to the impact in both Sky as a business and other customers.

Take for instance the current idea in this thread, £10 a month would double subscriptions/viewers, what is the evidence to suggest that? How would Sky sustain such a drop in subscritption costs to offset the drop?

You ask why we do this when we get nothing in return, well i can only speak for myself and i do it because its right to try and help others for no personal gain, however doing that for so long when some are extemely ungreatful/abusive/aggressive does sometimes cause me to occasionally post in a less than helpful way(sometimes warranted other times not).

Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

Clearly Sky want to max out the number of people subscribing to the full sports package and have deliberately set the difference between one or all at a temptingly low level BUT they must be missing out on lots of subscribers who choose not to have anything, rather than pay £18 for one sport. I can't image anyone paying £18 just for golf. Maybe cricket and football has an appeal at £18 but F1 is just unfair for 23 "matches" versus 128 football matches for the same price

Re: SKY F1 Offer 2021?

Please note that I don't know, or care, whether £10 would double or whatever Sky's revenue; I just know that I was prepared to pay that, but not £18.

As for golf as an example of a single sport, I suspect that the viewing opportunities exceed a couple of hours competitive action on a Saturday and a Sunday every couple of weeks; similarly another example, football, will have many hours of competitive wiewing on tap. Now, if Sky were to have a Motorsports channel, that might more align with other sports offerings.

I'd also say that dismissing some peoples' ideas as "quite frankly they are ridiculous or without any merit" is inappropriate; the fact that Sky have previously offered the £10 price-point both across the board and to individuals means that it is demonstrably neither "ridiculous" nor "without merit".

But anyway, I've made my choice re. F1 and I thought'd I'd disabled notifications for this thread, but some more came through, so I'll have to try harder.
