Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon - 1 star

So as with all video game, movie adaptations, you have to allow for a certain level of disappointment.

Whether it's a filmmakers belief they can tell the story better than the original game, editing out or putting in plot lines and characters has never worked.

That's why it is refreshing that Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (RE:WTRC) doesn't attempt this. Instead the film tries to tell the story of Resident Evil 1 & 2 in 104 minutes.

To do this, the film moves at break neck speed, never building any of its characters up beyond their looks and their names. The plot threads rarely build up, they just appear and disappear like the view from a moving car window.

It's as if the filmmakers have taken all the cutscenes from the game and edited them together. By doing so not only is the film an incoherent mess, but it's forgotten that the most enjoyable part of the games and the actual story is how you get their through the gameplay.

All in all, this ranks possibly as the worst Resident Evil film in the franchise, as well as being one of the worst game adaptations of all time.

Definitely one to avoid.

Bad casting too. I preferred the original films. Milla is a star. This reboot was pointless. Also 4K? Just awful. Definitely avoid and watch 1883 on Paramount Plus

Panasonic 50cx700 sky q 2tb, keep the 3d films, I am still watching those

I'd rather watch Milla than Dwayne: my wife says the opposite.

Fortunately for domestic harmony we agree on Angelina vs Alicia.

Good old Dwayne has been in a few dodgy early films starting off and he got better. I thought Doom was ok, shame it came out around the same time as John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars. Similar story. Milla is a good actress, still perfect in 5th Element, multi pass anyone? Old Brucey could still act back then and not just go for the paycheck like now..or is it too soon?😜

Probably, yes.  At least the Razzies had the grace to back down.

TBH it now makes sense why he only done 5 minutes cameos. He was a legend though.
