Replacing Sky Q Modem Router Suggestions??

Hi there - Wondering if any help available here still.. After following the thread above and checking elsewhere online I bought a TP Link router to replace my Sky Q broadband router. When the engineer came though, he said he couldn't replace the Sky router because Sky would not divulge the UN & Password needed to activate the internet... any advice? What TP-Link modem/router did you go for? 
You're looking to replace the Sky Q hub, so assuming you have FTTC Superfast?

To be precise

12 character mac address of router is the username eg 12345678abcd@skydsl

Password is last 6 digits eg 78abcd

Represented as client identifier

12345678abcd@skydsl|78abcd

But as @Skull+Treaty says we need the exact model to see if it support sky mer/ipoe/dhcp 61

The model I have is TP-Link Archer VR2100 Advanced Wi-Fi Modem Router Wi-Fi AC2100

The MAC address for my broadband port appears to be 9c:31:c3:33:d0:72

Therefore I would use 9c31c333d072@skydsl ?

Just generic for that device, follow these steps and you should be fine - note not to use the tether app to set-up, use Ethernet connected device to set up

1. Plug in your TP-Link to a power supply and connect the grey DSL cable to the corresponding port on the back of your router.
2. Connect the other end of your DSL cable to the micro-filter that comes with the router and connect it to your phone socket. If you already have a micro-filter, replace it with the new one.
3. Connect the network cable to port 1 on the router, then connect the other end to your laptop.
4. Open a browser window and navigate to http://192.168.1.1.
5. The TP-Link will ask you to set an admin password – make sure you use something secure.
6. Once in, the TP-Link setup wizard will start:
• Input your location and time zone. Click Next.
• Select Sky(MER)_VDSL from the ISP list. Make sure it’s this one, as this is Sky fibre. The other Sky option in the list is for Sky Broadband and will not work for fibre connections.
• In the username field, enter abcdefgh@skydsl
• In the password field, enter 1234567890abcdef
• Click Next, then set up your wireless network how you see fit.
• The TP-Link will then test the Internet connection and you should see a success message. If you do not, wait for the DSL light to stop flashing and try again – it should work just fine.

No it is not super fast. Just their standard broadband I think - I recieved the new Q hub for it a couple of months ago.

What speeds do Sky say you should be getting?

With the Q hub, it'll likely that you're on FTTC Superfast (VDSL), if you're on Essentials, that'll be ADSL and will require different authentication.

Standard essential up to 24 Mbps ?

You would need to use pppoa

The mac address on the bottom of the new TP Link router is C0-C9-E3-2E-81-25

So UN would be C0C9E32E8125@skydsl ?

And PW would be 2E8125 ?

Are the set up steps provided above by @Skull+Treaty still relevant?

There should be an option just for sky atm or similar that should bring up a pppoa atm and prefill the details for you
