I dont think its that because NAS visibility is fine and file transfers can take place but the WAN drops.

When you are transfering files, is this locally to the NAS or across the internet to cloud storage?

@jamesn123 Copying locally from the NAS to a laptop, so Ethernet to the router and then wireless to the laptop. I have also tried wireless to a tablet with the same WAN dropout.

Has to be a router issue then if the WAN drops without fail everytime you do it

Re: Problems with Sky Ultrafast router and a WD MyBookLive NAS.
I have a new router on the way, let's see if that resolves the problem.
Thank you both for your assistance.

Update - Have spoken to @Amateurfool and after a few checks we have determined the hub is at fault as suggested by a few on this thread, this has now been replaced 🙂

Well, the good news is the new router has arrived.
The bad news is, it has the same problem.

@Amateurfool how close is the NAS to the hub or is it connected by a powerline adapters? There have been issues between G.fast and some Powerline adapters as they use similar frequencies.

@Chrisee that is useful to know, the NAS is on the other end of a powerline adaptor, I will try moving it to the hub and see what happens.

Re: Problems with Sky Ultrafast router and a WD MyBookLive NAS.
@Amateurfool sorry but G.fast is incompatable with some types of powerline adapters and is almost certainly your issue.
You can try the adapter plugged into a different wall socket than the router and possible use a surge protecter on the hub's power supply. Really is guess work if either would work. Connecting the NAS by ethernet will avoid the problem of course.
The issue is fundamental the weak G.fast signals on similar carrier frequencies are lost due to interference from signal the powerline is using to transfer your data. Leakage from the mains wiring is unavoidable - talk to any radio ham about powerline but stand well back first.😀

Re: Problems with Sky Ultrafast router and a WD MyBookLive NAS.
@Chrisee The router and Powerline adaptors are already on separate sockets in different rooms, and the router is already on a surge protector.
Anyway, moving the NAS from the far end of the property (at the other end of the Powerline connection) and plugging it directly in to the router, no more dropouts, been stress testing it for the last 10 minutes.
Thank you @Chrisee I owe you a beer.

Re: Problems with Sky Ultrafast router and a WD MyBookLive NAS.
@Amateurfool glad to help and it's useful to know the data point about location and surge protection not helping - mains wiring is unshielded so becomes a large aerial I guess.

Re: Problems with Sky Ultrafast router and a WD MyBookLive NAS.
We have had exactly the same problem. Been with Sky 15 years. Had the superfast which was good but upgraded a few months ago to ultrafast. Wish we hadn't. It is rubbish. Constantly cutting out. Have problems connecting sky Q box and mini box. Made numerous complaints and still not fixed. If it continues much longer, going to cancel and move to Virgin. If anyone had same problems, but managed to fix, let me know. Would prefer to stay with Sky but won't if the broadband doesn't work
