@Loubear82It is not so much the loss of recording capability, that would not matter so long as once you have something in your play list it was always there, you can find it easily, it was the correct resolution and it does not take you to a version where you don't have a subscription.

I'm afraid that all reminds me of a politicians answer - full of ifs, ands, maybes.  It might be in the cloud, it might be in an app, it might not be anywhere at all, and you won't know until you come to watch it and it could so easily be too late. The system clearly hasn't been designed to work in a consistent way with all programming - possibly couldn't with the various licensing considerations, but that has not been made clear from the outset as it should have been. It also seems that the 1000 hours of personal storage claim is so easy to be misconstrued as exactly that, and I just can't believe Sky didn't know it would be. I wasn't interested in Glass because I don't want the telly, but I was hoping that sooner or later, Sky would be introducing set top boxes. No longer I'm afraid - unless things change drastically. If you're going to be using third party apps, you may as well use them direct for catchup ( there can't be many tellys without the main ones at least ), which leaves the only real appreciable advantage as the extra channels.

I watched the TV advert for the first time last night, and I noted it included the legend " TV with Sky inside". I can understand why, with a claim like that, there are many Q customers who are so disappointed. I left Sky about 3 years ago, but to me "Sky" is easy recording and time shifting capability - functionality I still miss to this day - functionality which is missing from Glass. Yes, this is over the internet so can't be the same, but that's my point - it's clearly been cleverly marketed to make it sound as if it is the full Sky experience in a telly, rather than what it is - a very different streaming platform. To my mind it should have been marketed as a superior, upmarket, Now built into a good quality telly. From here on in, Sky need to be very careful with their marketing, and how they sell the product to their customers.

I agree. It's a step forward. An amazing world where you can no longer watch everything at your convenience. Where you won't know what you can't watch... until you come to try it. Like Frasier. 

What is amazing is Sky have managed to push content delivery directly to third parties while still taking large sums of cash every month. Driving ad revenue most likely.

Sky Glass fails to let you watch the programme you want. That's the issue.

 

I'm sure it's great for people who come from a streaming background, because they don't know what programmes they're missing from the streaming apps.

I really miss the YouView functionality of being able to go backwards up to 7 days in the planner and just clicking on a programme to watch it pretty seamlessly ... yes, it did launch off a VOD service like iPlayer or ITV Hub etc but it generally just worked.

 

I sort of assumed that this would be better than that by making it easy to find the programmes you missed and be able to catch up on. There seem to be elements of Glass where you almost HAVE to watch it live otherwise you will miss it altogether.

 

I'd also like to be able to just set a darned planner reminder too ... I missed a(nother) programme today on BBC, OK it was 'somewhere' in the playlist but because there were so many series and so many episodes, I had no idea which one I 'needed' to watch ... at least not without looking into it in much more detail than I should need to!

 

I have kept my BTTV Youview box connected just so I can properly record some linear programming to make sure I don't miss it. That's not how it's supposed to be, is it?

People saying its a backward step from SkyQ, im on Sky+HD and i think its a backward step from that as well.

Just glad i didnt dive right in at the start. Im just looking at Panasonic OLED TV's to upgrade my 10 year old panny now.... rather than go back in time 15 years in functionality....

Perhaps this link added to the FAQs would help, Sky don't make them that easy to find but give a lot of information (even if the bias is on how good it is)

ok so having had it a week and getting used to the play list the thing that realy needs changing is when you add somthing to the playlist you must be told if it wont be streamed or recorded due to rights issues and is a live program only,

 

I currently have two very disapoted kids that wanted to watch the first two Harry potter films that were on itv this week,

step one .....added them to the playlist from TV guide

 

step two... checked they were listed in playlist under movie's ... all good

 

step three...... went to watch them back yesterday...... gone without a trace!

 

Step four spend the next hour trying to console kids as there favourite films had magicly disapperd!

The solution is to buy the Harry Potter films on Blu-Ray.

 

I was ableto buy a used Harry Potter box setfor £38.22 in UHD. It's the US edition, but it plays without a problem.

I'm not sure Sky would be keen on flagging what's not going to be available in playlist, like the Harry Potter films. As this highlights its shortcomings. This limitation is more of an issue as we approach Christmas and are likely to 'record' more than usual.

I do think that anything that cannot be played back should not be allowed to be added to the playlist.

I could by them but it would have been better if it told you it was a live program only then the kids what have watched them when they were broadcast .

But then if something in your playlist eventually became available weeks later, you'd miss it because you wern't allowed to add it. My guess is that at the time of adding it to the playlist, Sky Glass doesn't know if it's going to be available.

Kind of defeats the premise of FTA television !
