Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Just to add my personal experience of this issue.
Sky Q box now changed to v2 2tb UHD , the one with the silver strip. 3 mini boxes changed. All on 150 software. Pixellation still occurs, on certain recorded programmes. Can't see it on live tv.  Sometimes random but sometimes exactly the same point in the program so it can be replicated on all boxes. Whether wired or wireless.
If the issue is software related, as most agree, then why would an identical setup at another address not have any issues?

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@Michellemcnamara I have never believed this to be a software issue but I get shouted down every time I say this. I have the V2 box, now on 150 and have never seen a sniff of this issue.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

The new update seems to be causing pixelation on all live TV.

I haven't tried it on BT recordings yet where I had the initial issue.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Hi all

I have had a visit from a Sky Broadband Technical engineer at my home for over 2 hours. Had a bit of gear that looked at all WiFi channels and electrical interference.
Changed my phone socket did something to the firmware of my router reset every thing and moved my booster.
Very good engineer very  knowledgeable and very good. Let's  wait and see if he had fixed my blue screens and help with pixelation.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Had a visit the other week,  checked everything, added another booster, updated mini box so both boxes on same software update, still same in fact I'd say it worse now as get stoppages on live tv, as my contact is coming to and end I think I will be cancelling as they can't seem to sort this out 😡

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

I too had an engineers visit a few weeks ago after continuing the email correspondence of my previous complaint. The engineer was knowledgable and had a different take on the pixealtion problems, but despite replacing the router and a few other tweaks ,the pixelation and sound drop-outs continue as previous.

What he did say however, was that he'd been advised (that day) of a NEW software that the SKY engineers would be trialing in the coming weeks, its primary purpose being pixealtion and sound issues.

Let's hope it works and it gets rolled out soon.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

I think this is not a software issue.
I have tested the same programmes that pixelate,  at another address with the same setup ( same sky Q box, 3 minis , wired and wireless. ) same 150 version software.

The pixelation can not be replicated nor does it occur at the alternative address.

It's something else that is causing this. Although, no idea what it is. Engineer has suggested changing dish and the cable from dish to box. Let's see how that goes.

@Michellemcnamara

I have been told by sky it's an issue they are working on plus the sky employee that has commented on this forum has also confirmed it's an issue they are working on which should be addressed on the next software update

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Hi

Further to my sky technical team visit.
My setup sky broadband 2TB box 3 minis

1 booster. Main box Ethernet connected and WiFi turned off. Engineer has turned off 5 ghz on router.
So I assume now that 5ghz devices now connect via mini boxes and booster  then  2.4 ghz mesh back to router.
Everthing seems to be working well no blue screens and very few pixelations and audio drops.
I will monitor and update.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Further update bloody terrible Bt Sport live blue screens unwatchable. Looks like I need to run an Ethernet cable will be a pain as long run.  If I run an Ethernet do I turn off WiFi on mini box and if I do it won't be a network access point.
In that case I might as well not have Sky broadband and the mesh.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@Skycambs

We have a mini box hard wired by sky and yes I had to turn the wifi off on that box as it interfered with the set up but hopefully it won't be long before the new update

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Don't think update is for blue screens. Can't understand it WiFi all around the house 30/50 mb.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

I've had the same issue on my 2 mini boxes. My set up had not changed and I even got the 2 minis replaced and the pixelation still happens. I would confidently say that the picture never pixelated prior to the Q15 firmware update.

Is it a firmware issue do people think?

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

For months I endured 'pixelation events' every 30 minutes or so when watching live or recorded programmes on either of my Minis - whether in wired or wi-fi mode. These manifested themselves either as a 10% jagged band of distorted pixels stretching across the middle section of the screen for 1-2 seconds with 90% of the screen unaffected or as terminal full screen distortion on recordings after using the rewind and forward buttons several times in a row. The latter were 'terminal' because they were permanent until I hit the Back button to exit recordings and then resumed the recording from the Continue option. I tried numerous 'remedies' but none worked.

Then, 3 days ago I read in another thread that some people had cured their audio dropouts by deleting some or all of their recordings and then power cycling the main Q box. When I investigated I found that my 2TB HD was 75% full with hundreds of mostly unviewed series recordings initiated by my errant son who never deleted anything, even after watching it. I permanently deleted all the detritus leaving my disk only 10% full and power cycled all boxes.

In the 3 days since then I haven't seen a single pixelation event. (Nor have I experienced any audio dropouts on my recordings, although I did get a few yesterday when live viewing 10 hours of continuous golf - but not a single pixelation event.)

FWIW.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Just to update that the intermittent Pixelation or picture break up I was having has been fixed for me.  The cause was the main cable from dish to Q box which had deteriorated a little outside of the house. The cable was replaced. No more issue for me.
