Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

I to am having exactly the same problem.. Despite assertions from Sky that this is a connectivity issue I think they are simply making excuses for a possible software issue. This only seems to have happened since the software update before Christmas. My system worked perfectly up to that point.

I arranged for an engineer to visit last week and he provided a new 2TB main box, and reset everything.

Needless to say I still have the same problem on playback. If it was a connectivity issue then live TV on the mini box would also be affected, but live TV is fine.

I managed to take some photos of the pixelation and when I showed these to the engineer he told me that his system was doing exactly the same.
So if a Sky engineer cannot get his system sorted, what chance have we?F288FBBA-B09A-4936-92AD-DB2C159C5DF3.jpeg388DCC5D-9455-498C-815F-36161DAE18D9.jpeg

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Hi all it appears that the social media platforms like Facebook and making contact to ofcom via it won't work they are unable to assist unless you call of use some sort of online form on there website. It was worth a bash. But its clearly used for awareness not reporting. So if anyone has or is using ofcom in relation to this matter then its a call or an online form submission.

@Anonymous OFCOM don't deal with customer complaints so you're wasting your time.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@geoffers1956  looks like a connectivity issue from the images you've posted. I predict a lot of connectivity issues will resolve themselves once COVID has been tamed and people slowly return to their places of work.

Is the signal sent to my mini box when watching live TV different to that when watching recordings?

If so then yes it may be connectivity.

As you will see in my original post live TV is perfect on my mini box with no pixelation, so unless the signal is  a different format I cannot see how it can be a connectivity issue.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Those images demonstrated the issue we are all seeing perfectly. There is nothing wrong with the connection. I can replicate the issue running my Sky boxes on the default wireless config and also when using a wired connection.  Signal strength in my house is excellent (the Sky engineer who attended my property last week confirmed this) and alll my equipment has been replaced by Sky.  As we have all said... everything was faultless up until the most recent software update being rolled out during early December (I think), so this has to be.a software related change that has inadvertently broken something.  absolutely nothing has changed with the setup I have in my house and all by other devices work fine.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@geoffers1956  one is a recording one isn't. Even on a live recording data is constantly being saved to the buffer which can make a difference. The recording is being streamed from the main Q boxes HDD to the Mini.

@GingerOneSky what is the dBm values of your Q hardware?

Where do the dBm vales show and I'll take a look?

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Has nothing to do with Covid causing more strain on the network.  You can turn everything off except the Sky Q equipment and it does exactly the same thing.

so how is the live TV signal sent from my main box to the mini.

you failed to answer my question.

is the format of the signal / stream different between recorded programs and live TV different.

if it is the same then how can it be connectivity?

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@Anthonyh1976  and your evidence for this is what? Are you switching off your neighborhood too? Let's see, time will tell. In the meantime I would be looking to make some changes/upgrades to your network. BTW the December update had no impact on my system. I think if this was an update bug then millions of Q customers would be complaining.?

Hang on the evidence dose not need to be based on millions. Even if it was my evidence suggests that's the millions would sit there and not bother to report it why because its always said someone will cause I can not be bothered attitude. I deal and see that every day. Its not uncommon. There is very few hence what you see the less millions who do care and report it. Why because that's the thing no one cares or its not happening to them or they need millions to report.
