Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@Skycambs  a cheap deal isn't always the best deal. Perhaps you should have stuck with your old employer. I wouldn't change from BT no matter how sweet the deal simply because I have found their BB rock solid.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

There was nothing wrong with TalkTalk that was rock solid. When another company can give an x employee of 42 years a better deal it was a matter of principle.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@Oharedm, that's what I'm getting problems on playback on recorded or downloaded programmes on the mini only, and believe most of us are the same.

this thing about equipment positioning, my equipment has been in the same positions since in switched to Q - five years now - but I've not had this issue for five years, and from reading recent posts most people are the same, equipment that worked fine suddenly no longer does so it has to point to a software change, surely.

the only problem I've ever had with equipment positioning on Q was live UHD broadcasts pixelating, I moved my DECT phone base further away from the main Q box and that cured it, but that was three/four years ago

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@Skycambs  The mesh just over complicates matters and makes diagnosing problems more tricky in my opinion.

The first advisor I spoke to said all of my devices are connecting to the Sky Q boxes and this is causing a bottleneck on my network.

He suggested turning everything off.

Turn on the router

Turn on all non Sky devices (so that they connect to the router directly)

Then turn on the Sky Q equipment.

He said - and I quote "devices connected via Sky Q boxes only get a 30Mb/s connection shared between them whereas if they are connected to the router they make full use of the bandwith available" - whatever that means.

Surely the hole point of the mesh is so that devices can connect via the hotspots!!

Either the mesh is completely flawed or the support staff really need some training!

@Piesarus

Not everyone has good service from BT for their BB so really what you mean is if it's not broke don't fix it, we have had decades of issue free service from Sky but I totally agree they need to acknowledge they have an issue with sky q at the moment and the only changes to everyone experiencing problems is software updates as none of us have changed anything and it's been working fine for years.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

I thought the idea of a mesh network is to expand your WiFi area and thought devices would connect to the nearest and strongest signal. As I have said no real information of how Sky mesh network is configured and how it works can't confirm this.

What the sky technician has suggested doesn't make sense if you leave the house and phone uses Cellular network when you come back nothing forces it to connect to the hub as with other devices.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@Skycambs  exactly, devices will slowly work they way onto the strongest access point!

If we could talk to tier 2 support I am sure we would make some progress.  Getting past the gate keepers if the biggest problem with Sky support.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

I agree being an x engineer I have done all the test before I contact sky. Previously I tried to report a major know network problem because everybody on my Facebook group where having the same problems, but still tried to get me to do tests unplugging and resetting etc.
Hopefully sky will see the posts.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Is there anyway to use this community forum to raise up issues to senior technical support.  Do "Oracles" have indirect access to Sky Technical.  Form a closed group of a technciclaly savvy and interested users.

We could compile a list of the most requested queries.

1.  Issues with the SR203;  DHCP assignments etc... on reboot

2. v3. Sky Q boxes and sound drops

3. Pixelation on Mini Boxes

@Anthonyh1976  far from complicating matters mesh makes life a lot easier where networks are concerned. They are the future for WiFi.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

In regards to the mesh I can not say I have had any problems as belive it is doing what a mesh should. So for example I have my modem that fires the signal out to the Q then other Qs connect it like a chain. I did some testing so I have a mini upstairs in bedroom its a fair way from the main but connection wise dose very well it will still kick out 90mbps to my phone I have a printer up there to so what I did was turn that mini off bang it dropped my phone and printer. So I thought the idea was to save the need or repeaters and to extend the WiFi range? What dose annoy me is the 5ghz networks to benefit form that is you have to be as close to the boxs modem as possible if I leave a room with say my phone often or not I use WiFi calling I will be cut off before it decides to reconnect to the 2.4 channel.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

@lukedaniel17  the Sky routers reputation isn't the best plus SkyQ WiFi is not strong and I feel poorly implemented.,

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

I used social media Facebook.

A lot of companies are using the messaging to help and support customers. I have personally found using this very useful. Sadly they are not always instant reply and can takr a few days.

Re: Pixelation on recordings mini box

Just sent Ofcom this message on facebook page.

I wish to make a complaint about sky and an ongoing issue i have with Sky Q. There is a page on The sky community board named Pixelation on recordings mini box which covers the issue and how sky are dealing with issue.
I dont know if you can access but this is the link,

https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Q/Pixelation-on-recordings-mini-box/td-p/3572567/page/7

If not i will describe the problem. Basically since November myself and many users are experiencing pixelation on sky q mini boxs. This is on recordings and live TV. In my case sky have fitted a booster and supplied a new mini box but the problem persists. I have spent many hours on the phone to them changing settings , resetting boxs, running scans and isolating items on the 2.5 and 5ghz channels such as camera, amazon alexa. Nothing makes any difference within 5 mins of doing anything pixelation returns. Could you advise best way for myself and fellow users to progress.

Regards
