That would depend on the ax5400 deployment of dhcpv6 prefix delegation . There is no support for dhcp option 61 om most tp link ax routers

@gthornton04  Where as I can confirm the W9970 will act as a modem only (bridge mode) on sky's fttc service.

It dose looks like the ax5400 will still need to run off the back of a sky router?

Tom...

Sky want us to believe in better
BELIEVE =accept that (something) is true, especially without proof.
BETTER = of a higher standard, or more suitable, pleasing, or effective than other things or people:

Sky Q & 2 mini’s
SR203 router. > Replaced with ASUS XT9’s with a TP-Link TD-W9970 modem
Sky superfast 80/20 :sort of, 63-75/15. Devolo 1200 wifi > Replaced with cat 6
Sony KDAF8 65 oled.

Re: Options for modems with a new router

i cant find any information suggesting that i would need the sky router at all, but i hoping i dont as the ax5400 would end up just being a very expensive access point

Apparently on 80% of sky fttc lines dhcpv6 prefix delegation will (how they decide which will and which won't is another matter) on fttp dhcpv6 will work 100%.

So either use the sr203 with the wifi switched off and ethernet to the tp ax5400 in access point mode if your line doesn't

Or

Instead of setting tp td w9970 as "sky vdsl" set it us as "sky mer vdsl" and run ax5400 in access point mode

Re: Options for modems with a new router

@cookiemonsteruk @TomThumb5ive @Skull+Treaty I've upgraded my Sky broadband to Gigafast. Now thinking of upgrading my router to suit. I was thinking of purchasing an

ASUS DSL-AX82U. Grateful for any advice as to whether this would work with Sky Broadband and, as it has a DSL port whether it would be possible to use this for my internet calls as well?

Many thanks for any assistance

The dsl modem is obsolete and may cause issues

I would advise

Asus rt ax56u

Asus rt ax58u

Asus rt ax68u

Not sure if they do an rt ax82u and whether it works with sky

Asus rt ax86u

Asus rt ax88u

Asus zenwifi xt8

@cookiemonsteruk Many thanks for your reply. Is there anyway that I can keep my internet calling capabilities at all?

VOIP from a Hub doesn't use a DSL port: the handset connects to a 'phone' socket behind which is an integrated ATA

You could probably add the newly released Asus ZenWiFi Pro XT12 to that list aswell,

going by the email I've just received from Asus with the spec list, it's definitely a serious bit of kit, 😛

that also comes with a serious price tag 👀  £629.99 for a twin set.

Re: Options for modems with a new router

@cookiemonsteruk @TomThumb5ive

Installed all today, everything works flawlessly with the T Link TD-W9970 as a modem and AX5400 as a router. IPv6 and IPv4 work.

I guess i was lucky with the DHCPv6 thing on my line

Re: Options for modems with a new router

@gthornton04  Glad your all sorted,

For clarity & anybody else who finds this thread!

Did the AX5400 authenticate over ipv6 without the need for option 61 credentials?

(pot luck if you on the 80% side of the network that supports it!)

Or dose the AX5400 actually support sky's option 61 authentication?
