New house with these sockets on wall ...
Just moved to a new house where the previous customer said he had sky tv. There is a dish on the side of the wall. There are 3 parts of the house which have sockets like in the photo shown. I was hoping to connect a cable from it to the tv to pick up freeview channels built into the tv to get started but it won't pick up anything. Does that mean the points are dead ?

Re: New house with these sockets on wall ...
Were the last owners using Sky Q or Sky+ as the dish will usually be comaptible with one and not the other

Re: New house with these sockets on wall ...
I believe it was sky q. I have just managed to
Load the freesat TV guide but it won't play any of the channels. I then ran an option called satellite and it's picked up some channels but don't appear to include bbc or itv type channels!

Re: New house with these sockets on wall ...
Your satellite receiver must be wideband to work with a standard Sky Q LNB a hybrid Sky Q LNB will work with older non-wideband receivers

Not sure what that means but any idea why the free sat channels appear on the guide view but don't then actually play?

Re: New house with these sockets on wall ...
As @Annie+UK indicates, only a recent (UHD) Freesat receiver can be expected to function properly if there's a standard Q LNB on the dish: it's extremely unlikely that a Freesat tuner built into a TV set is UHD capable, even if the set itself displays UHD from other sources. Older Freesat hardware requires the same LNB as Sky+.
Dish/cable/distribution-hardware/socket/receiver issues may well be related to Freesat reception, but non-Sky use is really outside the scope of this forum.

Also note that you mentioned both Freeview and Freesat, and these are different: Freeview uses an aerial, Freesat a dish (with a compatible LNB). They also require different tuning hardware.
