Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreHow is it connected? To connect a Sky hub to the line you need an RJ11 to RJ11 cable unless you are using an Openreach modem?

@jamesn123 I’ve a prefiltered master socket with the RJ45 connector on the cable pictured connected to the broadband port on the faceplate with the RJ11 connector going into Qhub which I currently have. No modems or anything else connected or in the property.
As I said it’s probably a stupid question but given help articles for setup of new Hub suggest that if you use wrong cable then broadband won’t work I thought I’d ask anyway, even if I look stupid for doing so!

You could just copy he wifi settings over from the old router and then all devices will just reconnect. One of the reasons why I use a custom SSID rather than default ones.

That cable you are using now will work fine.

@lettice Thanks for that. As I said probably a stupid question but just wanted to be sure, want a trouble free easy set up rather than having to puzzle over why it potentially might not work!!

There are some cheap or poorly wired varients of an ADSL/VDSL patch cable that I have seen people buy that do not work. But if yours is working now, it should be fine.
How long is your cable? I have helped and extended some with a 5m one and seen no problems or loss of speed.
Mostly to get their router away from their porch installed master socket, which would be a very bad place for your hub to be located for wifi range.

It’s a 4m lead I have just now & it works fine. I also have a shorter 2m one that is exactly the same. Given the new Hub doesn’t have a standard plug on it then I may need to re think positioning of it as I doubt I’ll get the power adapter down the back of my units into the extension cable. Unfortunately my house has limited plug sockets in general & what I do have is never located where I need them or connected devices to be!

Hi
I received the new Sky Router this morning. I've just started to set it all up. Have Sky changed the router sign in details? It used to be admin and sky, but the webpage isnt recognising the details :-s
Thanks in Advance

The power lead is about 8 inches longer than the Sky Q hub lead if that helps in any way..
But yes the power adapter may prove awkward. That is about 2 x 2 x 2.5 inch (maybe 3 inch with the lead protude). Approx measurements as mine is awkward to get to now it is up and running.

Bit of a bonus that the cable is 8 inches longer I guess, find out when Parcelforce eventually turn up with it whether that’s gonna be enough or not. Been out for delivery since 9:25 this morning but they neglected to provide a 1hr time slot so probably still be sitting here at 6pm waiting for it!

@Steve-35 where did you get your cable from? Do they do a rj11 to rj11 variant? Seems like it's a good quality cable and I'm in same boat as you.
Socket is not close to plug socket
If yes where did you get it from? 🙂
Edit: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07CVHLL6V/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=AJ9FA081RC98J&psc=1 would this cable quality be ok
