Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

How do you change the default admin password (WiFi password) when the max number of characters for the old admin password is 10 yet the default admin password is 12 characters? It doesn't accept the first 10 characters!

@AskAFriend the rules for the admin password are different you need 12 characters including upper, lower case and at least one numeral to enter your own value - the default is a special case as the standard WiFi password doesn't meet that requirement. Caught me out until I thought of a string that meant something to.me.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

@Chrisee  Thanks for the response.  On the hub interface, Maintenance>set password, it will not allow me to enter more than 10 characters and states the password must be 10 characters.

Is it possible that the interface software isn't current?

@AskAFriend sorry you are correct it must bec10 characters - just checked my own hub but the "old password" value should accept the default WiFi code even though it doesn't meet the rule.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

@Chrisee it would only allow me to manually enter 10 characters but I managed to get around it by copying and pasting it in!  Thanks for the support and inspiration!

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

I changed from BT to the Sky today and received the new Sky Broadband Hub. I cancelled the SKY contract within an hour. The broadband speed to the hub connected fine at a steady 65Mbs. The wifi signal was awful. In some rooms of the house the speed was as low as 2Mbs as a direct comparison the BT SMart Hub 2 wifi signal connected at 50 Mbps in the same locations. I am fuming. All 4 of my sky q mini boxes will no longer connect to the network. In making the decison to move from BT to this rubbish, I have lost the use of my Q boxes, all the smart tv's in my house, my plex server and kids gaming machines! I now have to wait two weeks to reconnect to BT.

Sort yourselves out SKY you are about to lose a 27 year loyal customer who has a full tv package, 4 q boxes, and four mobile phones with you at the moment.

The Q mini connection problem can be easily be resolved by doing a network reset because the main Q box will have inherited the SSID from the hub. The minis were never connected to your BT wifi because they mesh between themselves and the main Q box. Without the network reset the minis will be trying to connect to a non-existant SSID. Once all the minis are reconnected they will act as hotspots and should pretty much resolve the wifi coverage problem. As you have cancelled Sky BB it's all a bit academic.

@Luke+English there is a SR204 version that is used for the Ultrafast services using G.Fast - the modem is different.  Not sure of the version number used on FTTP services but that one will have one of the LAN Ethernet ports switched to act as tgecWAN port.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

just a s adie note, as I am so disspointed with the performance of my SKY Superfast broadband......

When I was with EE, my PING when doing speed tests was consistantly  9 - 11 , yet now I am on SKY, it's always high teens, and tonight was 39!

Why is that?

Getting older (in my 50's) by trying to keep up with technology...... 😉

@Dave+H68 highly unlikely to be the hub see my (long) reply to your own thread. Latency can be affected by the hub but other factors are far more likely.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Im onto my 4th sr204. They simply dont work if you have multiple devices. Sky cant do anyting about it and they wont admit it.

Im rolling back to superfats and the Sky q router and then probaby back to BT. Had enough of the saga...

@RobHL how many devices do you have? The SR204 works with up to around 30 devices then has issues which Sky are aware of but where their advise is to reduce the number of devices which is not helpful..

It is difficult as I assume you have G.fast which has not really taken off so no third party kit I am aware of.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Hi, yes i have multiple devices. 3 kids...multiple laptops, phones, tablets. Nest thermostat and doorbell. TVs etc

Sky are not acknowleding the problem and are continuing to roll out these routers when they are not fit for purpose.

Whats the point in having 100meg broadband and then not being able to connect all your devices. Its lunacy

Is there another router I can use?
