Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub
A bit premature I know but I will be posting my findings when my new router arrives in a couple or three days. Can I easily change the new routers name ( I know and have changed the password) as I don't wan't to have to go through all my smart items and change the details. I read somewhere on here the new router has to have a 10 digit password, if that is true I will have to go through everything anyway as my existing password doesn't fit this criteria.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub
The admin password for the router has to 10 digits I think. It has this 'smart' thing which changes the wifi password to the admin password automatically. Let it do this initially when you change the admin password to something secure but then go into the settings for the wifi and you can change the ssid (ie the wifi network name)and the wifi password (back to your previous ones).

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub
@kit77 the admin password has to stick to the upper case, lower case and numeral 10 digit formula though and does not change with the wifi password. Having a secure admin password is sensible for any user and essential if you open up external access.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub
When I got my hub 4.2 installed I changed the ssid and wifi password to what my devices used with previous router. This did change the admin password to the same password automatically. I had to then change the admin password as it was not 10 digits long and reverted to the factory admin password by itself after the next reboot.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub
My Q box is hardwired to the old Q router. Occasionally, the Sky Q box losses the IP address of the router. The only way to restore Ondemand etc is to reboot the router. I’ve now reserved the IP address of the Q box on the router, in the hope this will not happen again. Does the new router resolve this IP address issue with hardwired devices?

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub
@atann the new hub runs the same basic firmware as the old one so it is likely to behave similarly. Your fault is unusual a fixed IP address is likely to help stabilise the system.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub
By the way for those that need it.
Did some tests.
The latest firmware for the SR203 (Sky Broadband Hub) now lets you use 3rd party DNS.
Firmware version 3.04.1462.R
I do not use a 3rd party DNS Myself, but thought as I had the latest firmware, to test it and it worked fine.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub
So managed to change Wifi name and password, thanks for your help.
First thoughts on the new hub , well not super brilliant but I am now getting wifi in the garage on the iPad and intermittant wifi on the iPhone both of which are brand new. It may be me but signal strength may of improved slightly over the last three hours. Does it take a while for the router to kick in and find it's feet?
I have tried moving the router around and it seems beneficial to move it towards the rear of the house, something I'll do later. It will mean running a 10m RJ11 cable though. Any thoughts or comments appreciated.
NB The garage is single brick and approx 15m from the house.
