Hi @Tyl3r99 wish you were right there is a lot more to a true Modem mode than that unfortunately. On many routers like all Sky and BT hubs you cannot turn off their routing firmware which means if you do what you suggest you get all sorts of issues - believe me its a common subject here. These can be got around by having a double NAT but that is off topic for this thread.

I was simply mulling if the new Q hub could be connected to a Virgin Media 500Mb/s line as their cable kit has a true modem mode.

I think the reference to two versions black and grey in the ISP Review report is a mistake. Suspect the black and grey refers to the 2 connection cables which come with the kit.

@Chrisee apologies if this has already been pointed out & I’ve missed it but there IS two versions of the new broadband hub, one black one grey, found the user manuals on Sky website & they show both, what one you get apparently depends on what package you have.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

There is only one version of the Sky broadband hub....but depending on if you are on the  trial for voip/  SOEGA        or whatever it is called, then you just have an extra cable(black).
The grey  hub in user instructions does not me there is a grey colour one,...it is just how it looks.
I have the SR203 and as I am not on the trial, mine came minus the black cable that has to be used for internet phone calls.
The illustrations regarding how to connect also shows the hub as grey in the user instructions that came with  mine
And I do not have voip...
The Sky broadband hub is the same for Gfast,  voip, VDSL/FTTC....
Also there is no SR204 at all....as some seem to think
like I said, black cable included for anyone having the voip or Gfast.

Simply one basic hub with different packaging and instructions dependent on the type of connection being used. This is what Sky explained last week.

@lettice Useful find. i wonder what would happen if you connected the new Sky hub to a Virgin Media hub in Modem mode?

I did think briefly about doing something like that, but even my longest ethernet cable will not reach to my nearest neighbour a number of doors away who has Virgin. They have the V6 box and hub. Not really sure how I would explain to them what I was doing, even though I get on with them well. LOL

All my other neighbours have Sky. from what I know and what my wifi analysers show me.

I do not have or can think of anything else to try for an actual signal rerference.  But doing what I did proves its active.

There isn't a black or grey router per se. I've got an acquaintance who's on the SOGEA trial. Their Hub 4 is coloured black with a grey sticker on the back.

I'm not on the trial and I've got a Hub 4 with a black sticker (router info) on the back.

This is the only visible difference.

Quite a stupid decision imo.

Extremely happy with direct replacement router from Sky. The SR203 has the following deployed a staggering 8 Antennas compared the old Q Hub which had 3.  My speeds have increased dramatically! @Chrisee @Chepstow+Boy this was what i meant when I said there was two different versions, to me at least it looked like two different versions on the basis of what @SamRyan has said above.

I finally managed to get one ordered today with delivery fee waived but only after submitting a cancellation request off the back of a CSA threatening me because he didn’t like my opinion of him & his attitude or Sky & their customer service department as a whole.

Not really sure why I’ve stayed tbh but regardless my broadband & talk remains at £16.01 a month with £5 for boost now added on - the now legacy boost I had was free previously.  Exemption from early termination charges also remains on my account.

Just hope that whenever it turns up it proves to be better than the Sky’s customer service of late!

@SamRyan actually far from being stupid I think Sky are being sensible in packaging the new hub with the cables and instructions for the product the customer is buying instead of a one size fits all kit. Most customers dont know the difference between standard fibre connection - need to use a line filter or prefiltered socket- from SOGEA - no filter required - to g.Fast, let alone FTTP etc.

The hub hardware is the same only the packaging changes. Should save an awful lot of posts on the forum hopefully.

Re: My experience with the new Sky Broadband Hub

Hi

Id spoke to Sky and renewed my Sky Broadband to get the new Sky Router 🙂 Id spoke to them on Sunday so hopefully the new router gets delivered today 🙂

Currently I have my Sky Q Box and 4 x Sky Q Mini Boxes all connected via Ethernet and Ethernet Switch.

To setup the new the Sky Router, can I just disconnect everything and reconnect it all. Or will I have to setup up each Sky Q Box from scratch again?

Thanks in Advance

Barry 🙂
