Just had Ultrafast installed this morning.......

And the speeds are absurdly slow. Advertised as up to 150mb. Openreach engineer confirmed I had  speeds to the Gfast socket of 160mb. In practise I am getting no faster then 36mb on various devices on either WiFi or ethernet. Whilst I wouldn't have any expectaions of getting 150mb on WiFi, I would expect my ethernet connected laptop to get at least 100mb.

Am I being impatient? It's only been a couple of hours, will it get faster in the next day or so?

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Just had Ultrafast installed this morning.......

Well I'm pleased to say I have a very positive update re this issue. During the install yesterday, it became quickly apparant that the RJ11 lead that connects from the GFast socket to the sky hub was not long enough to reach where I wanted to put the router. It wasn't a great distance but the lead was no more than about 2 metres long. The Openreach chap very kindly went out to his van and came back with a slightly longer one that did the job but I did notice that both leads were a little cheap looking with very thin cabling.  After the speed issues yesterday, I ordered a £10 better quality 4 metre lead from Amazon that had good reviews.

So this morning before it arrived I was still getting download speeds of no more then 37 mb/s. The lead arrived about an hour ago, swapped it over and hey presto 140mb/s downloads instantly.

Problem solved, at a stroke. I'm now running my SKY Q box, two minis and countless other devices effortlessly, including streaming 4k HDR on netflix and amazon withoutany buffering

Happy days!

There will be a period of 14 days dlm training even on g.fast ultrafast but ethernet should attain 90-95% speed.

Can you post your router stats

Minimum  delivered to the Hub should be 100Mbs, so may be 92Mbs at an ethernet-connected device and still meeting the target.  As @cookiemonsteruk indicates, Sky will insist the connection is running for 14 days before they accept a challenge against the 'guarantee'.

Doesn't look ideal, but as noted above, you'll have to be patient.

Re: Just had Ultrafast installed this morning.......

Thanks Guys, dont really understand any of those stats but as I'm definitely getting 160mb from the cabinet to the gfast socket, can I assume that any issues are all my side of the wall? either the RJ11 lead from the socket to the router or something the router is doing that needs changing?

You are synchronising with the G.fast PoD at your maximum speed of 160/30Mbps, and it should already provide a connection speed in the range of 130Mbps throughput mine did when first installed from 1 minute after installation. But Sky will make you wait, unfortunately, before they'll accept there is an issue.

And the router stats look fine.

Interesting. So what might it be? I know it's not my ethernet lead. I've still got my Virgin hub running for another week and if i connect it back to that, I instamtly get over 600mb.

Do those look weird, or just a product of the technology and short line length?

Likely done something wrong at the G.fast PoD or backend at Sky on installation but not sure what. The line looks excellent with a 14dB noise margin spare, about 160 metres from the PoD I estimate.

The technology that is used by G.fast is Time Division Duplexing (TDD) and it uses the same frequency in both directions half-duplex from 17Mhz to 106Mhz, eg: VDSL2 uses Frequency Division Duplexing (FDD) hence the 6 frequency bands for that system and 1 band for TDD on G.fast.

Going off previous posts on the forum I would give it 48hours to let the throughput speed come up. Often there is days lag in Sky connections between receiving a higher sync speed on the router and actually seeing that speed on tests. I have no idea why.

Some parameters profiles that need pushing around the systems maybe? 😉
