Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issue

@Chrisee

Well said... and and good to know that @Mark-Br is working for us, I have to say I've have found him quite impartial when he does contribute.

I could naively hope that when I create a new thread for the Saudi Arabia GP on Friday that there will be little of nothing to report for this weekends coverage, that it has magically all been fixed in a few days (a bit like the new Mercedes W13 car) but I'm not seriously expecting miracles for either!

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issues?

I have to agree i have never seen the point of getting angry or throwing insults that never get anyone anywhere except cut from the postings and left out in the dark.

The fact that this group has been sensible since the very first posting just makes it all the more frustrating that Sky will not release an official statement. Or even an official apology.

As for the fix being in place for the weekend, i will be amazed, sadly I have always been a pessimistic person and my glass is always half empty.so forgive me if I don't hold my breath just yet.

Mark seems to be between a rock and a hard place on this one and i appreciate his position. But to what extent have you pushed for a definitive answer Mark, again sorrry to put you on the spot but I don't know you and I Have now idea what pressure your able to apply in the places we cant reach within Sky?

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issue

Just received this reply from an e mail I sent to sky. Let's hope its true

Good afternoon,

Thanks for your further email.

Sky Glass uses different delivery systems to other products like Now TV
or Sky Go.

Please appreciate Sky Glass uses ground breaking technology to deliver a
premium service to our customers, however the technology is still in its
infancy and as new challenges occur, occasionally issues can arise.

We are currently investigating exactly what happened but we did
experience some issues processing the Formula 1 content to the Glass
platform. In simple terms this was caused  by assets having the same
name (Ted's Notebook: Bahrain for example) and being published to the
same folder as the previous year's events.

The impact of this on customers was that assets for the 2022 Bahrain
race were essentially hidden from view beneath the previous year's
identically named videos. Despite being successfully published to the
platform if users tried to select the link it played the previous year's
event. So as far as customers were concerned content was missing. This
was very confusing for us at Sky as the assets were all showing as
available on Glass devices, but we could see they weren't  this was
immediately raised to our engineering teams in the UK and USA who worked
hard to rectify the problem as quickly as possible by reprocessing
assets and changing file structures on Glass.

This was the first race of a new season and so lessons have been learned
and it is hoped that moving forward we will not see a similar impact
when future sporting events are broadcast.

Apologies once again for having to wait for the content to update. I
suspect you will not have a similar wait for assets to appear after the
Saudi Arabian F1 GP.

We hope you enjoy the upcoming race weekend.

Kind regards
Iain

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issue

@Tricky+Dee

Wow... that's as close to a sensible and meaningful reply I have seen from a Sky employee for some time...

I'm not being sarcastic when I say that, the reply actually addresses some of the issues and gives, if correct, a plausible explanation of what may have caused some of the problems with a series of technical issues I can actually relate to.

If that is all correct wouldn't it be better if it was circulated internally to all customer facing staff so they were all singing from the same hymn sheet.

Fingers crossed that the situation may be better for this weekend!🤞

That was a great email again made sense to me and with any luck there may be light at the end of the tunnel. I go into the weekend with some hope and fingers crossed.

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issues?

I mean we will gravitate to what we want to hear, we've also heard from Sky it's a rights issue. Etc etc

doesn't explain why premier league games takes ages to be uploaded..

I sincerely hope it's the case, but it's a very different response to some others..which is right?..

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issues?

Would be nice if Mark would be kind eneough to delaying locking this discussion for 24hrs, it is one of the few discussions that's i have taken part that's has not gotten silly and pointless. It would be great if this weekends race goes of without a hitch, and would be nice to close off this discussion with some good positive comments.

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issues?

Agree with the last couple of posts. Something from a technical point of view makes sense, and plausible.

My only concern is that as an early adopter of Glass in the last couple of months of last years season we had exactly the same issue.

Perhaps a bug fix that went wrong. Let's see and fingers crossed.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

From the smoke signals this morning it looks like the info from Viewer Relations is accurate so hopefully it was an issue with the File IDs so the Glass system could not see them not that the files don't/can't  exist. Getting that formally admited to might take a while.

As posted earlier this weekend is manageable as the race is in the evening UK time but the next race in Melbourne is a different matter.

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issue

@Chrisee

Thanks for the heads up, good to know that the information seems to be confirmed, at least it contained details which made some sense rather than the usual waffle we often get.

Let's hope we can all enjoy a better experience this weekend than we did last weekend!

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issues?

I remain sceptical until I see something official from Sky, I don't doubt the posts here, but there has been too much misinformation for me to accept this, until a) we have a seemless weekend or b) we have an official report of the issues.

in the absence of either, in the near term Sky will lose customers, including me.

fingers crossed for either/both.

seemless (adj): 1. not in good style or taste; unbecoming. 2. obsolete. unattractive. adverb. 3. rare.

You probably mean seamless.  Last weekend was seemless...

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issues?

I remain sceptical because the exact same thing has happened all season with football, particularly Super Sunday.

Games just don't appear until either very late Sunday night or the next day.

Then you have to navigate the highlights with the results advertised.
