Unfortunately the Sky logistics chain appears to assume the ex-subscriber has retained their last card despite being otherwise instructed...

For such a huge event that many would be interested in watching, it would be safe to assume that sky store and offer it from the sky on demand servers.

The cloud recording therfore wouldn't be appropriate in this instance.

But whatever was/should be happening needs to be advised!

Sky certainly give the impression that sky progreammes are recorded "With Playlist you can record shows from Sky [..] and it's all in the cloud so no need to worry about storage or clashes" https://www.sky.com/glass

Regardless of how it's implemented behind the scenes, the fact Sky call it "Recordings" imply that, at worst, we'll be able to watch it a few minutes after it's finished (just as if it was on a VHS tape where you have to wait a few minutes for it to rewind, and as we are used to with the iPlayer), and the "Start, From the start" also says you'll be able to watch what you're watching from the start no matter which channel.

Going from Freeview Play to Sky Glass is, currently, a step back - at least Freeview Play shows you the channels which will make content available on demand!

Okay, I can watch BBC ONE E Mid on demand, but the lack of an arrow means no Notts TV on demand.

Oh, and these are all the programmes been on today I can watch on demand...

OK, BBC News at Six isn't available yet, but I know it's coming soon.

Why is it so difficult to at least match Freeview for something that costs a damn sight more each month, when we've been told we can "record shows from Sky. BT Sports, Eurosport, Gold, W, and more"?

@TimmyBGood Where does it say this please?

Recordings. Only better.

With Playlist, you can record shows from Sky, BT Sports, Eurosport, Gold, W, and more, ready to watch right away.

@Jayboy1990 think you are confusing different things it is perfectly possible to restrict access to specific streaming assets to customers with the right subscriptions. Sky definitely do not have rights to sell individual races through Sky Store..

As with many things with Glass this has all the signs of not being thought through before they launched a service. Sky staff who interface with customers are doing their best but what we need is a definitive statement which has been checked against the agreements which may take a few days as this is probably a complex subject. Of course given Sky Glass launched in October 21 should have happened ages before.

Reverting to Q seems sensible option for those of us with the option.

No I meant sky store as in a server not 'the sky store' @Chrisee

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issues?

Some very interesting posts today however a couple of things are being forgotten for me in particular the only part of the f1 weekend that I can watch live regardless what time it is on is the race itself. I work 10hr shifts Friday and Saturday.
The other thing is that I have had glass since it's launch last October and watched the last 6 or so races last season with no hassle all sessions were available within seconds of the event being aired and if I cam into a session late I was always able to go back to the beginning again without any hassle.

so what we need is some clarity why a service worked so well last season as gone so badly wrong this season.

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issues?

@Sky+4+Retention well said, if it worked last year then what has changed and why can't it be fixed?

I hate to say it but it smacks of incompetence to me rather than simply technical or licensing issues.

How many times have software updates been released and caused more problems than they fixed, or, introduced new problems. How many issues, not F1 related, with Glass, playlists, black screen, etc still haven't been fixed after months but we've almost stopped mentioning them as we want them to get the basics right first, the list goes on, and on...

Sky needs to investigate internally, put some key staff on this and task them and give them the resources to get this all resolved ASAP, but will they, and if they haven't done so to date, why not?

The buck has to stop somewhere!!!!

How was the premier league last year because I've seen this issue with super Sunday games also?

Here's my go at speculating what might have changed.

Looking back at the deal Sky did with Bernie Ecclestone, it was for the broadcasting rights. Sky may well not hold the streaming rights, and maybe that's backed up by the stories last year that Sky were negotiating some sort of deal to bring F1 TV PRO to the Sky platform(s). Maybe that deal has fallen through, so Sky can't stream, only live broadcast.

Of course, instead of speculation, it would be far better if Sky actually issued a clear statement of the facts.

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issues?

I think the chances of getting an official statement are getting less likely by the second, especially as this thread is getting closed in less than 39hrs.

Which is a shame when all this i am sure will kick off again after first practice is not available until some time on Saturday if your lucky .

Come to think on it i did get practice 1 on Friday night it was when i went looking for practice 2 i noticed there was a problem, So one would think if you have secured the licence to show practice 1, then you would have made sure you had a licence to cover the whole event or am i just being naive?

Re: How is the new F1 season going so far, any issues?

@Sky+4+Retention

I spotted earlier that this thread would be locked on Friday morning and posted a reply earlier on page 12 of this thread, here's an extract:

"I see that @Mark-Br has given advance notice that he will lock this thread on the morning of Friday 25th March and I understand the reasons why, this thread has had a lot of views and comments and will have provided a great deal of feedback to Glass users, F1 fans and Sky themselves, if it stayed open the thread would become too long and difficult to navigate."

I intend therefore to start a new thread on Friday titled something like - Saudi Arabia GP - March 2022 - any issues to report? Hopefully we can the continue to report on-going issues and keep the pressure on Sky to do something about it, please don’t just give in and accept it, let Sky know where the service needs to improve and your thoughts about it…"

The problems haven't been resolved and won't just go away so I think it's important that we keep posting comments and issues and keep the pressure on!

I must congratulate people who are posting for their civilised and intelligent posts which are making very good points. Too many of these threads become useless due to people getting upset and it becomes a slanging match. As you can see those of us with Oracle and Superuser status are as confused as everyone else.

I have known @Mark-Br  for over 5 years and know that he regularly puts his neck on the line for forum members internally but in the end works for Sky so has to sometimes follow the company line in public.. The idea of closing the thread is sensible IF things are different from Bahrain as otherwise it gets confusing.
