How do I stop my soundbox turning itself on

I have set up soundbox with my sky q and works great but when I turn off the soundbox and try watch and listen to sky q through the tv, it turns itself back on how can I stop this

You can't stop it switching on by the nature of how the soundbox needs to be cabled- but my strategy which works fine - is that I alternate between TV and soundbox audio - by switching the respective  TV / soundbox volumes up or down (not the mute button)

I had this issue, and did find it to be a bit frustrating. I got over it by disconnecting the HDMI and connecting the soundbox through an optical cable direct from the tv. However, I am wondering if by doing this on I'm compromising the sound quality.

Hi @kenatwestbourne 

If you are using optical all the time - one issue you'll have is that you won't be able to make use of the Soundbox built in sound modes (the ones you access by pressing ?) 

As to which output is better, Sky's opinion is

"Select HDMI input for the best sound experience"

My preference to overcome the issue of not wanting to always hear the soundbox, is to turn up or down the volume
