So today i wanted to eliminate anything related to network causing the sound drop issue. I have taken the sky box off the local network, removed all network/Wi-fi settings from the box so unable to view any apps or stream online content. I simply used the box just to watch live tv and recorded programmes. Live tv was fine as it always has been. Recorded programmes still sound drop as they always have done. This in my mind suggests its not network/internet related and is hardware/software.
I raised a complaint with sky they have emailed back passing me to techinal support but I just can't face going through all the usual reset/switch on and off stuff with them again. 😩😩

@Macus1970  The enclosed video clip was taken from a live satellite broadcast and shows the exact effect that i experience with sound dropouts, you can hear them and i get the banner across the top of the screen showing the video and sound source. Except this video shows these effects happening during a network reset on the q box.  So, clearly there is some connection between the networking and the hdmi on my 32c box.

Still lucky enough to not have sound drops on live TV (touch wood!).

@RJKennedy I'm not surprised a different audio device has shorter interruptions. Some amps take a little while longer to be happy with a bitstream and start playing it. You have the same root problem, just your LG is quicker for whatever reason at starting to play out what it's receiving so the symptoms aren't quite as bad.

This was the response after complaining to Sky. Pretty much the same that's already been said here before and not much help, but just wanted to update 👍🏻

@RJKennedy
That's an interesting anomaly you have (Sony vs LG) - i'm keen to hear if you have the variances of dropouts over time.
Also, that acknowledgement letter is good to read. Sky have hinted and suggested,  on this forum, but via one person. This letter now moves it into official grounds and I think will be a relief to everyone - knowing they really are on the case.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

I also had a similar response to my complaint which said that Sky are awar of the issue and working on a resolution as a high priority, with the advice to set HDMI sound to Normal until it is resolved. So probably not much else to be done by users.

The workaround of setting sound to normal does improve it for me but not eliminate the drops. They are as frequent but shorter.

I occasionally also get an on-screen message, in the middle of watching a recording, saying to insert viewing card face-up and everything freezes until I remove it and reinsert. Anyone else had that?

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

Ive never had the card message but have found that if dropouts get worse than occasional, taking out an replacing the card seem to temporarily help.  Odd.

Following this forum as I will be cancelling Sky when my contract runs out in May unless this is sorted by then.  The value has drastically diminished now I subscribe to Netflix, Amazon, Disney etc and this, and the SSDP issue, are the final straws

Out of curiosity, when people have upgraded from the V1 box to V3 have you been asked to send back the V1 box?

My issues, a lot of knowledgeable people out there, so hope someone can help:

- Sound drop outs

- Audio sync issues (negative)

- UHD sketchy, cutting out (live)

@Stuvennn I have not upgraded but the usual procedure is that the courier that delivers the v3 box expects the v1 to be ready for them to take back in the same box

Yes @Stuvennn you will be required to send back the V1 box.  The delivery driver will take it away with him.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)

It's interesting that when you look on this thread  at how folks consume the various media services like Netflix, Disney, Amazon Prime etc direct to TV.  How does the usage compare between watching satellite broadcasts vs apps ? So,  it does beg the question of what added value does Sky bring ?  Is it one , some or all of the following or something else ?

1. A  single box seamless solution to access all your media.

2. The ability to record content.

3. The simple and seamless way to stream media about your house to multiple rooms ?

Well, the forum shows that if it is item 1 then folks here are plagued with sluggish menus. And does it support everyone's content requirements and when it does do you get the full range of capability (eg 5.1, ATMOS etc) ? And it causes problems with people's networks. Sound and picture issues.

And for item 2. How important is this given the availability to stream on demand ? Back to usage, satellite broadcast vs streaming.
And if item 3 then we have plenty of reports of issues with the minis. And if you stream them natively to the tv you can get the full 4K experience.
