@Stuvennn Yes, you have to return the v1 box. I had the v1 ready to just swap over with the v3, the courier waited at the door while I lifted the new out, and placed the old in the box. Remembering to remove the viewing card!

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
@CyberFriday ive given this a lot of thought myself, and have been close to cancelling a few times.
that said, having looked at a number of freeview / pvr boxes I'm yet to find something that has a nice / slick / fast user interface 😕

@CyberFriday number 4. UHD sport content - options are limited but I would have gone for an alternative 1080p solution without audio dropouts over UHD with dropouts if I hadn't been fortunate enough to get a v1 box back.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
@CyberFriday I think the main thing Sky brought to me was laziness 🙂. I got a TV magazine every week, set the recording via iPad for anything I wanted to watch and there it was ready and waiting. The next episode automatically queued up so I didn't have to worry about it.
I already watched Netflix, Prime and Disney+ and one thing this debacle has shown me is how little I really watch Sky now. I cancelled my contract and the Q box is finally leaving this week after 30 years of Sky TV. I now use Now TV and actually find it quite good. To my eyes the picture is better (via a Apple 4K box) and there are no adverts to skip through. I need to think a bit more about what I need to watch but is that a bad thing?
The main problem I can think of is that a program may appear on an obscure channel I now haven't got, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

@Gridders do you think that the Sky box is causing issues with peoples Wi-fi?
I notice your post seemed to also mention internet issues.
I'm not with Sky for broadband but have noticed more Wi-fi disconnections since getting a V3 box.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
Been out of this thread for a while, wondering if anyone has successfully 'backgraded' to a V2 box?
We've stopped getting any sound dropout at all on our V3 box, if it's the only box in use.
But as soon as one of the miniboxes upstairs is used, all hell breaks loose.
Sounds starts dropping out on the main box and watching the minibox is a total chore.😫
Watching a recording of a movie can take two nights, such is the freezing.
We've become a 'one box at a time' house - which is so bad.
I' m on the verge of phoning Sky, but I really cannot face the depressing crap they will undoubtedly ask me to try.
Nor can I face them sending me another V3 box that won't be any better (and I'll lose my recordings).

Several people on this thread have said that the V2 box is also affected by the drop-out issue so 'back-grading' is probably not advisable as a fix. The V1 boxes seem to be the least affected but these are in short supply now and it's also very difficult to specify which version of box you want. You can request but will not necessarily receive, as it seems to be a bit of a lottery as to what box will be sent out.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
Is anyone coming to the end of their contracts and deciding to cancel sky because of the sound issues?
be interesting to see how many are, and what the consensus of opinion is on that.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
I agree with @Spectre01 and plan to do the same and cancel my contract when it ends in May and subscribe to NowTV for the little actual Sky content I watch. Because of the issues with the Q box I now mostly view all non-Sky programming through the catch up services and consequently rarely record anything. This long-unresolved problem with the Sky box must have forced a lot of us to change our ways of viewing forever and wouldn't be surprised if Sky take a bit of a hit over the coming months with many leaving.

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
@BBBD69 Absolutely and without a shadow of a doubt. I wasn't with Sky BB when I upgraded to a v3 box in Sepof last year. I INSTANTLY had WiFi issues but didn't make the connection with the new box. The four Sky engineers I had actually blamed the BT WiFi and the WiFi discs so I exited my contract early, joined Sky BB on 16th November and ALL of my issues are worse. Since then I've had two v3 boxes and now on V2 HDR and still my WiFi is intermittent at best, the mini boxes pixelated and disconnect and I have the sound drops.
HDR boxes are causing every single issue mentioned on this thread.

If the box is not working properly you can cancel in or out of contract

Re: HDR v3 box not fit for purpose (sound cutting out)
The sad thing is I really don't want to cancel, but paying £100 a month to only be able to watch one box at a time isn't on.
Here's the latest scenario in my house:.
1. Wife/daughters go upstairs later in the evening.
2.Sound starts dropping on the main box I'm watching, so I know one of them has started watching something on a minibox.
3. To save the inevitable shouts/texts or "the picture is freezing" I switch off the main box and do without TV.
How sad/bad is that?
I cannot face phoning them, I really can't.
They're going to blame my BT wifi, they're going to ask me to reset everything blablabla
I'm going to get frustrated with an operative reading generic 'help' off a card blablabla
I'm going to end up hanging up and leaving it as it is......sigh

@burnebabybyrne That isn't the same as what other owners are on about though, more like a issue within your property.

@cuke that's not true. He's got the same issues as me and the issues are with the box/boxes.
