@Perfectionist+dur - Yes both my Sony Bravia KE-55A8 and HT-X8500 soundbar are at the latest firmware version.

About a week with Q160 and can pleasingly report that I've had no issues regarding the sound drop outs. I hope it continues.

Nothing in my Sony sound bar either no static no loud noise of any kind, it all sounds great

Hmmmm.... a mystery.
At the risk of a tsunami of hate mail, I'm not sure it's a Sky Q box problem given that no one else has reported the same issue.
A long time ago I did have a similar issue and it turned out to be a loose hdmi fitting (rather than a tight grip). I changed the cable and it was sorted.
I'm just suggesting this. Hey, nothing to lose.

I must quickly add that the loose hdmi connection I had was pre Sky subscription - it was with a Humax freesat box

Yes finally , been testing for a few days and no sound drop outs at all.👍

If we had loose HDMI connections I think we would of lost a bit more than sound drop outs? I've been on the Q system for a little while now and have had nothing but problems with sound drop outs, and I've been with sky now for a very long time and have very few sound problems with my set up until this sky Q box so no I don't this is an isolated incident or an HDMI issue, as these software testers have found out it's software related nothing else just bad code!

@Alan07 has reported a very similar issue too. Also, I am quite sure I've not had this noise when watching any app directly from the Sony TV.
However, as you say it's worth checking the cables. And, now that you mention the cabling, this occurence did coinicide with me switching the HDMI out from the Sky Q box from being directly connected to my TV to being connected to the HDMI In on my soundbar with HDMI passthrough enabled. So, it could either the HDMI connection to the soundbar or the passthrough function of the soundbar. Since watching an app directly from the Sony TV wouldn't be using the HDMI In on the soundbar.
But, I mentioned my intermittent noise issue on this. thread because this thread seems to indicate that there are some audio related issues with the Sky Q firmware. It will be interesting to see when Q160 is finally released if my intermittent noise goes away.

The sound dropouts you're referring to are different to the problem @ksaro1 is facing - long bursts of high volume static buzzing.

It way well be a bad cable if it's only sound that's being affected if the cable was not pushed in tight, surly some picture or HDMI control would of been affected as well, I've just tried to replicate this and when the cable is moved I get picture issues as well! So it might be a doggie cable? Just a thought.

I may have overestimated the duration of the noise bursts I'm getting. They're never long enough to react to, like changing channel or volume. So, maybe 3-4 seconds? Just long enough to annoy and hurt the ears, but never long enough to need attention to the TV or Sky Q box. If that makes sense? And it may be 1-2 days of TV viewing with no bursts.
Again, I'll wait on Q160 to see if this goes away. If not, then I'll try changing cables and/or cabling the Sky Q box back to my TV directly.

Do you have any more HDMI cables to swap over with the ones you have this may help to eliminate one thing or another, also how old are your cables as some of the newer ones are made with thicker copper cable in them this is something to think about.

@picasso10 - I have 2 Sky provided cables. One connecting the Sky Q box to the soundbar and one connecting the soundbar to the TV. FWIW - I've had 3 Sky Q boxes already in under 3 years due to several faults. And in the course of replacing them I seem to have collected some additional Sky HDMI cables (I think). This is another reason I'm holding off changing cables, since the other HDMI cables probably aren't as good quality as the Sky ones. But, TBH, I really doubt it's a cable quality issue. It may be a connection issue where the cable isn't seating properly in the HDMI port.

Have you tried connecting the Sky box to the TV and then eArc/Arc port to soundbar?

Over a week of viewing on Q160 and had zero drop outs which is great news. Box has locked up twice in that time requiring a reboot but unlike previous occasions the box remembered I was on 2160p and didn't default to 1080i. I can live with the odd reboot now the sound issues appear to have been cured. 👍
